As a software engineer, you will work across the organization and use technology to inform our decisions and bring this vision to life. We must create innovative products that will push the boundaries of traditional thinking in urban environments while protecting user privacy and security. This will involve solving complex computational problems, dealing with messy sources of data, and building systems which scale. Our software engineers are utility players who will support different product areas. You will work across software and hardware, and develop deep partnerships with our UX designers, product managers, and subject matter experts (e.g. architecture, housing affordability, mobility) to deliver products to unlock the true potential of a place. You will travel to Toronto to listen, learn, and partner directly with the community in conjunction with the Sidewalk Toronto project. This is not a standard software engineering position.

In this role, you will support our Talent team to run best-in-class recruiting processes: you’ll write strong job descriptions, build interview line-ups, and drive the process all the way to onboard new hires during their first weeks at the company. You will partner with Sidewalk Lab’s recruiters to support specific roles and you'll support our People Operations team as needs arise too. As you gain proficiency, your portfolio of roles and your scope of work might expand to include candidate sourcing and project management.

You will be a key member of Sidewalk’s generative design team, helping build a product that solves complex problems in urban design, masterplanning, and real estate development. Our generative design team is committed to radically improving the quality of urban life through better digital design tools — and we’re bridging the urbanist-technologist divide by combining expertise in machine learning, optimization and cloud computation with a nuanced understanding of why and how the design of a city’s physical form matters.

We are looking for a building controls expert to lead our building automation workstream and support the integration of building with infrastructure controls. Because we are prototyping our own building typology (Factory), we have an opportunity to integrate controls into all building systems and achieve unprecedented levels of automation. Initially, this is where your focus will be. Alongside, you will be exploring broader business potential for automation software. Further, you will be responsible for piloting your ideas that will be deployed in the first building pilot a year from now.

As Chief of Staff, you will provide leverage for Josh Sirefman, our President who oversees Sidewalk’s work in Toronto, Sidewalk Urban Development (SUD), Sidewalk Urban Systems (SUS), and the Policy and Communications team. In this role you will report directly to the President and interact with business unit leaders, company leadership, and all levels of staff.  You will need to be highly strategic and tactical in your work, as a key part of this role will require you to manage the operations for a sizable part of our organization. This means you will drive important internal processes, manage decision-making channels, prioritize deliverables for the SUS, SUD, and P&C teams, and measure progress against both goals and timelines. Success will require strong management skills, deep experience navigating complex and ambiguous organizations effectively, superior people skills, and high emotional intelligence as you navigate workstreams and timelines with the businesses and with Sidewalk’s Corporate Services team.
