Launch Your Career in a Technology, Data, and AI-Driven Organization with Purpose and Impact!
Join us as an Engineering Summer Intern for an immersive 11-week experience where innovation, collaboration, and real-world impact intersect. As part of our dynamic Technology, Data, AI & Ventures department, you'll gain hands-on exposure to cutting-edge projects that drive our digital transformation, while exploring potential career paths in software engineering, infrastructure, or modern workplace technology.
Throughout the summer, you'll deepen your technical skills, expand your professional network, and receive mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals and senior leaders. Our program combines meaningful project work with learning and development opportunities designed to prepare you for success beyond graduation.
You'll connect with a diverse cohort of interns, collaborate on a team-based capstone project, and contribute to our commitment to social good by participating in our Volunteer for Good initiative. Whether you're building innovative solutions, leveraging AI and automation, or reimagining the future of work, you'll play a vital role in helping us shape what's next in technology.
This internship is more than just a summer job-it's a steppingstone toward becoming a future-ready technology professional, with the opportunity to convert to a full-time role after graduation.
About the Internship
Join us for 11 weeks as an Engineer, where you'll:
  • Work on real-world technology projects that support our business

  • Participate in intern socials, mentorship, and Volunteer for Good community events
  • Engage in a group capstone project with other Technology, AI & Data Interns

Technology Intern - What You'll Do
As a Technology Intern at New York Life, you'll gain hands-on experience in a tech-enabled, data-driven, AI-powered environment, contributing to impactful projects that support the company's digital transformation. Depending on your track and placement, you may take on roles such as:
1. Developer Engineer
Design, develop, and maintain full-stack and cloud-native applications.
  • Use modern front-end and back-end technologies to build secure, scalable solutions
  • Create cloud-native applications using Agile and DevOps principles
  • Deploy applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid environments
  • Write clean, testable, and efficient code with a focus on quality and scalability
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to bring features to life
  • Apply AI and automation to improve architecture, development, and delivery pipelines

2. Infrastructure Engineer
Support the backbone of our technology environment.
  • Assist in building and maintaining enterprise-wide systems and platforms
  • Analyze system requirements, architecture, and physical design
  • Help identify gaps in infrastructure processes and contribute to improvement plans
  • Learn how AI is applied to monitor, manage, and scale infrastructure efficiently
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects with hands-on systems engineering experience

3. Modern Workplace Engineer
Engineer employee-centric digital workplace tools.
  • Support collaboration, endpoint management, MDM, virtual desktops, and messaging platforms
  • Configure and maintain enterprise end-user computing (EUC) environments
  • Help define product strategies and assist with roadmap execution
  • Monitor system performance and apply improvements for enhanced user experience
  • Use AI-enhanced tools to manage workplace platforms at scale
  • Translate business needs into secure, modern technology experiences

Across all roles, you'll collaborate with technology leaders, apply your skills to real-world challenges, and help drive innovation at a company where technology truly matters.
What We're Looking For
Required:
  • Rising senior or graduate student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field
  • Strong understanding of Linux/Unix and Windows environments
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., C, C++, Java, or C#)
  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented development, and database/scripting skills
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies like AI and a desire to build the future

Preferred:
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills

To be eligible for this program, you must be authorized to work in the U.S. We do not offer any type of employment-based immigration sponsorship for this program. Likewise, this program is not available to those authorized to work under optional practical training (OPT) or curricular practical training (CPT).

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $30-35/hour + $3,000 housing stipend
Overtime eligible: Nonexempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: No
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
