The Role: 

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in overseeing the financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and managing the accounting team. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring accurate financials, managing revenue accounting processes, including gross to net calculations, as well as overseeing cost of goods sold and inventory accounting for commercial products.

  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Month-End and Year-End Close: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring the integrity of financial data and timely reporting, including the preparation of timely and accurate journal entries/associated reconciliations.
  • Audit Preparation: Support the Assistant Controller in liaisons with external auditors and assist in the preparation for quarterly/annual reviews/audits. Ensure all financial information is accurate and available for audit procedures.
  • SOX: Support the Assistant Controller in SOX documentation and coordination with internal auditors.
  • Revenue Accounting: Manage the revenue recognition process, ensuring compliance with US GAAP (including ASC 606). Oversee gross to net revenue calculations, including discounts, rebates, returns, and other adjustments for biopharma products and services. Ensure accurate reporting of revenue and related receivables.
  • COGS and Inventory Accounting: Oversee the accounting for the cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory for commercial products, ensuring accurate tracking of inventory levels, valuation, and cost recognition in line with US GAAP. Collaborate with operations and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of inventory transactions and related COGS calculations. Monitor and report on inventory obsolescence and provide analysis on inventory turnover and COGS trends.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as operations, regulatory affairs, and research and development, to ensure alignment between financial and operational goals.

 

 Desired Experience/Education and Personal Attributes: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role, preferably in the Big 4 Public Accounting industry or the biopharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and industry-specific financial regulations (e.g., FDA, Sarbanes-Oxley).
  • Experience with financial systems and accounting software (ERP experience is a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in revenue recognition, particularly in the biopharma or life sciences industry, including gross to net calculations.
  • Experience in COGS and inventory accounting, particularly in the biopharma or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial accounting, R&D expense capitalization, and revenue recognition related to the biopharma industry.

Syndax offers a total compensation and rewards package that is among the most competitive in the industry. Base pay is just one element of our package and is determined within a range based on several factors including market data, experience, qualifications, demonstrated skills, relevant education or training, travel requirements and internal equity. Our overall package also includes an equity offering, annual target bonuses, and an outstanding benefits program. The anticipated annualized salary range for this role is $132,000 - $147,000.
