The Accounting Policy and Advisory - Senior Specialist will partner across Finance, Corporate Development, and Marsh’s four businesses to help shape and support accounting conclusions on complex matters, new initiatives, and strategic transactions.

This role reports into the Global Head of Accounting Policy and Advisory and will be a member of a highly visible team that serves as a trusted technical accounting resource across Marsh’s four global businesses.

We will count on you to:

  • Act as a subject matter expert in ASC 606 (revenue recognition) and ASC 340-40 (costs to obtain and fulfill).

  • Work closely with other key stakeholders, including but limited to: Legal, Tax, Treasury, Controllership, and Marsh’s four businesses.
  • Communicate accounting guidance to Marsh’s Controllers by designing, maintaining, and refining accounting policies and/or preparing accounting memos that are easy to understand and include sufficient detail to support effective implementation.
  • Advise management of any new accounting guidance issued by standard setters and regulators that may affect the organization, and support Marsh in the adoption and implementation of new standards across the business.
  • Support SEC reporting activities through the review of applicable changes to the financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A within Marsh’s 10Q and 10K.
  • Support the team’s external engagement with 1) Marsh’s external auditors and 2) the SEC, the FASB, FINRA, and relevant trade groups to help ensure Marsh’s views are appropriately represented.

What you need to have:

  • Certified public accountant
  • Bachelor’s and/or a Master’s degree in Accounting.
  • 8+ years of providing technical accounting advice in-house within an organization and/or within the public accounting space.
  • Experience with complex transactions, with at least 2 years specifically focusing on revenue recognition (other areas of expertise are a plus).

What makes you stand out?

  • Have strong interpersonal skills and can take a thoughtful, measured approach when interacting with colleagues.
  • Extensive technical accounting experience gained in a large Big 4 accounting firm’s client-serving technical accounting group and/or National office.
  • Ability to balance providing accurate accounting advice while being commercial and practical.
  • Other areas of topical expertise beyond ASC 606 and ASC 340-40.
  • Have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
