We’re hiring a Product Consultant to own Statement Accounting: Trayd’s newest and highest-value product line, and the one where the implementation is the product.
You are the first non-engineer on this team. Today, Statement Accounting is delivered by a team of engineers who built the extraction and import tooling that moves a customer’s entire accounting history out of old on-prem systems and into Trayd. That tooling now runs an implementation in about an hour instead of several days. What it cannot do is sit with a controller, understand how they actually close their books, prove that our numbers match theirs, and train their team to work in a new system. That is your job.
You’ll own accounting implementations end to end, carrying two to three at a time on arrival and more as the tooling matures. When an account reaches steady state, you hand the relationship to a CSM or Account Manager and stay on as the accounting expert they pull back in.
Critical skills for this role
- Real accounting fluency. You can read an income statement, trace a job cost report, and tell whether two systems agree, without being walked through it.
- Comfort proving your own work wrong. Every implementation includes an attestation step where you demonstrate that Trayd’s numbers match the customer’s legacy system exactly. Finding the discrepancy before the customer does is the job.
- Enough systems aptitude to trust tooling but verify output. You’ll run a data extraction and import pipeline daily. You do not need to build it. You do need to know when it produced something wrong.
- The judgment to tell a configuration decision from a genuine product gap, and to write the gap up cleanly enough that Engineering can act on it.
- Comfort being the technical voice with a controller or CFO who has run their books the same way for fifteen years.
- Genuine interest in going deep on one part of the product rather than broad across all of it.
What you’ll do
- Own accounting implementations end to end: historical data migration, income statement and job cost attestation, revenue tracking setup, billing configuration, WIP reporting, and month-end flows.
- Run the extraction and import pipeline yourself, on customer source systems.
- Train the customer’s accounting team through their first real close on Trayd.
- Carry two to three concurrent implementations to start, growing as the tooling improves.
Own the vertical
- Develop a mastery of Trayd’s product offerings, business model, services, emerging technologies, and Customer Success best practices.
- Be the default answer for statement accounting questions across every Trayd account, regardless of tier.
- Stay available after an account graduates as the accounting expert a CSM or Account Manager brings back in.
- Own the statement accounting queue in our support tooling.
Build the depth others rely on
- Turn recurring questions into documentation, configuration templates, and AI skill content, so the answer doesn’t have to come from you personally every time.
- Flag patterns across accounts, not just one-off tickets, to Product and R&D as genuine roadmap input. You will see the same gap across five customers before anyone else does.
Work across teams
- Partner with CSMs and Account Managers on their accounts without taking over the relationship. They own the client, you own the domain.
- Write Engineering a report they can act on when something in the pipeline turns out to be an actual bug.
- Coordinate with the Implementation team on the payroll side of the same customer.
Why this role is different
- You are first. The vertical is new, the playbook is not written, and you will write a large part of it.
- Serious tooling behind you. You are not doing this with spreadsheets. You are running a purpose-built extraction and import pipeline that gets better every month, in part because of what you report back.
- Product-adjacent. A dotted line into Product and R&D means your pattern recognition across accounts becomes genuine input, not just repeated answers.
- No book, no quota. You’re measured on delivery quality and depth in your vertical, not a revenue number.
Who you are
- Two or more years in accounting, from public accounting, industry, or a mix. Audit, assurance, or general ledger backgrounds all work.
- Comfortable owning a deliverable with a real deadline and real consequences when it is wrong.
- Organized enough to run several implementations in parallel without losing track of what’s open.
- Comfortable being the technical voice in the room, including in front of a client’s senior stakeholders.
- Enough technical judgment to write an actual bug report, not just describe symptoms.
- NYC-based or ready to relocate quickly.
Nice to have
- Construction accounting exposure: WIP, percentage of completion, job costing, schedules of values, payment applications, AIA billing. We will teach this if you have the accounting fundamentals, so treat it as a plus and not a bar.
- CPA, or CPA-eligible and working toward it.
- Hands-on experience with Foundation, Sage 300, CF Data, Viewpoint, or QuickBooks in a construction context.
- Comfort with AI tools for turning repeat questions into documentation and skill content.
Working style
This is an in-person role in Manhattan, five days a week. We move quickly, collaborate constantly, and value people who take initiative and ownership.
