We are seeking a highly motivated and commercially aware lawyer with a focus on technology and AI to join our global Legal Risk Management team.


This is a strategic and evolving role at the forefront of legal innovation, responsible for advising on risk, professional responsibility, and regulatory issues arising from the firm’s use of emerging technologies, including GenAI tools, agentic AI, traditional AI , data driven platforms, automation solutions, and legal tech systems, as well as client-facing technology-enabled services.


The successful candidate will work closely with partners, business services teams (including IT, Innovation, Knowledge Management, Information Security, and Procurement), and clients to ensure that the firm adopts and utilizes technology in a way that is responsible, compliant, and aligned with professional obligations.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions:


Technology and AI Risk Advisory

  • Advise on legal and regulatory risks associated with the development, deployment, and use of AI tools (including a range of GenAI, agentic AI, traditional AI) and other technologies within the firm and in client engagements
  • Assess professional conduct risks connected with technology and AI
  • Provide written guidance on the responsible use of AI and other technologies for users
  • Provide in-house legal and risk management support for the Firm’s onboarding process for new technology and AI tools
  • Work with the AI Governance Manager to review and approve use cases involving emerging technologies, including automation, analytics, and cloud-based systems

Policy, Governance and Frameworks

  • Provide risk management input into firmwide policies and frameworks governing technology and AI use
  • Draft guidance in relation to the use of particular AI tools
  • Keep abreast of evolving legal and regulatory developments relating to AI, technology risk, data protection, cybersecurity, and digital regulation across key jurisdictions
  • Support the firm in building AI governance structures aligned with industry best practice and certification obligations

Legal Services and Business Services

  • Advise lawyers and business services on risk issues in technology,
  • Support client negotiations where technology or AI-related terms of business are involved

Collaboration and Training

  • Work closely with Innovation, IT, Knowledge Management, and Information Security teams and our existing Data Privacy Team to embed risk-aware practices in technology and AI initiatives
  • Work with Innovation, IT and Knowledge Management to deliver training and guidance to lawyers and business teams on GenAI risks, responsible use, and emerging issues
  • Work closely with the Data Privacy Team and provide timely information in relation to AI-related data privacy compliance.
  • Act as a key point of contact for queries relating to technology and AI-related legal risk
  • Contribute to internal audits, risk assessments, technology and AI projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

Education/Training/Certifications:              

  • Qualified lawyer with strong post-qualification experience, ideally gained in a leading law firm or in-house legal/risk function
  • IAPP AIGP desirable

 

Professional Experience: 

  • Experience working alongside Technology, Cybersecurity, or Innovation teams
  • Contractual review experience
  • Knowledge of legal tech tools, SaaS products, and cloud infrastructure risks
  • Exposure to AI governance frameworks, model risk, or algorithmic accountability
  • Familiarity with global regulatory regimes (e.g., GDPR, EU AI Act, UK AI guidance, US frameworks)

 Technical Skills: 

  • Solid understanding of legal and ethical issues and risks related to AI, machine learning, and emerging technologies
  • Experience advising on risk, compliance, or professional responsibility matters

Performance Traits:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risk scenarios
  • Commercially pragmatic with excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a proactive mindset

 

Physical Requirements:

  • May require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.

Posted Pay RangeThe typical pay scale for this position in New York is between USD $232,000.00/Yr. and USD $306,000.00/Yr., and in Chicago between USD $187,000.00/Yr. and USD $248,000.00/Yr although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate's education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
