As the AI Tech Lead Manager (Platform), you will:
- Lead and develop a UK- and Germany-based engineering team focused on AI enablement, platform engineering, developer experience, networking, data infrastructure, and regional platform support, fostering a strong local culture while maintaining alignment with global Platform teams.
- Partner with US-based Platform leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to align regional execution with global strategy, establish clear operating models, and translate international business and regulatory needs into platform priorities.
- Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives across engineering, product, security, and data science, driving alignment, prioritisation, and execution through influence and collaboration.
- Define the technical direction for reusable AI platform capabilities, including AI workflows, orchestration, agentic systems, governance, and standards for secure, reliable, and scalable deployment.
- Establish engineering best practices for AI-enabled systems, including evaluation, observability, reliability, cost management, incident response, operational ownership, and governance.
- Guide architectural decisions across deterministic automation, single-agent, and multi-agent approaches, helping teams make pragmatic build-versus-buy and platform-versus-product decisions as AI technologies evolve.
- Build team capability through hands-on technical leadership, coaching, experimentation, design reviews, and adoption of emerging AI technologies and engineering practices.
- Drive operational excellence by promoting sustainable support models, documentation, stakeholder communication, and clear decision-making while effectively communicating technical tradeoffs and uncertainty in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.

You understand that this role is partly technical leadership, partly people leadership, and partly organisational connective tissue.
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure, SRE, DevOps, AI/ML infrastructure, developer experience, or a related technical field, including 3+ years leading engineers as a people manager, Tech Lead Manager, or senior technical lead.
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives, with a collaborative leadership style that builds strong partnerships across organizational boundaries.
- Strong technical foundation in platform architecture, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, Kubernetes, networking, data platforms, developer platforms, or AI/ML infrastructure, with the ability to guide architectural decisions across traditional software, AI workflows, and agentic systems.
- Experience building high-performing engineering teams that improve developer productivity, operational reliability, safety, and long-term maintainability.
- Knowledge of AI orchestration, multi-agent systems, and governance, including agent coordination, reliability, identity, permissions, auditability, human oversight, and applying sound judgment when choosing between deterministic, single-agent, and multi-agent solutions.
- A product-minded, enablement-focused approach with excellent communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
Optional
- Experience leading Platform, SRE, infrastructure, or developer experience teams in globally distributed engineering organisations.
- Experience with AI enablement, LLM infrastructure, MLOps, AI observability, AI evaluation workflows, or internal developer platforms such as Backstage or Port.io.
- Hands-on experience with modern platform technologies including AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Spacelift, GitLab CI/CD, Databricks, Datadog, Splunk, or similar tooling.
- Experience working in regulated industries (such as healthcare or life sciences) or building operating models that align regional engineering teams with centralized platform organisations.
