Marie Claire is looking for an Art Director to oversee and manage the brand’s visual tone across its print magazine, website, and social media platforms, in tandem with day-to-day asset creation.

This role will lead design direction, including managing the day-to-day creative and taking a hands-on approach across print, digital, social, and newsletters. Working closely with all editorial desks to understand their needs, requests, and visual objectives, the Art Director will manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and work is delivered on schedule. They will also bring experience working on set for a variety of shoots, overseeing shoots’ visual execution and ensuring creative direction is carried through. 

In this role you will report directly to the VP of Creative. You’ll:

• Oversee and manage Marie Claire’s Art team, providing direction, guidance, and support across projects
• Present mood boards to ensure the strongest visual approach for each brief
• Lead the creative process for two print issues per year, from the initial conversations with editors and story run-throughs to picture research, commissioning, layout design, and final execution. Collaborate closely with production to ensure all assets and final files are accurate and delivered to the required specifications
• Work closely with the Social team to design and approve social-first graphics for cross-platform use
• Turn ideas and concepts into compelling visuals and present along with rationale and detail to editors 
• Ensure all creative work follows the appropriate editorial review and approval process, collaborating with the Editor-in-Chief and/or relevant editors, to incorporate feedback and secure final approval
• Help conceptualize creative directions for cover stories, including developing mood boards and visual approaches for photoshoots
• Develop bespoke landing pages for digital issues and other programming as needed

• 7+ years of relevant experience, with an emphasis on design direction
• Experience working on sets; working on the creation of social media assets; and working on a print magazine
• Outstanding portfolio with a strong commitment to producing excellent work
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to both detail and the big picture
• Fluency in Photoshop and InDesign; willingness to work within our editorial CMS

The expected range for this role is $95,000 - $100,000. This is a hybrid role, working 2 days from the New York office.
