About the Job
As Splitero's Associate General Counsel, you will be the primary legal owner of our home equity investment origination process, supporting marketing and application through closing, document recording, and servicing. You will report to the General Counsel and partner closely with our origination, marketing, product, and operations teams to keep a fast-growing consumer finance business moving while staying on the right side of an evolving, complex state and federal regulatory landscape. You are a pragmatic, business-minded attorney who can spot the issues that matter, give clear answers quickly, and build the legal infrastructure for a scaling originator. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role for someone who wants to help homeowners access their equity and shape how Splitero does it. There are no direct reports today, though the role may grow a team over time.
●      Serve as primary legal counsel for the end-to-end homeowner origination lifecycle, including marketing, application, underwriting support, closing, document recording, and servicing.
●      Advise on federal and state regulatory compliance affecting home equity investment and consumer finance products, and translate requirements into practical guidance for the business.
●      Own consumer finance compliance matters, including UDAAP, fair lending, and related consumer protection obligations.
●      Review and clear product, marketing, and advertising materials before they reach homeowners.
●      Draft, negotiate, and manage vendor, title, and escrow agreements that support the origination and closing process.
●      Advise on privacy and data security compliance, including GLBA and CCPA obligations tied to consumer financial information.
●      Manage litigation, consumer complaints, and disputes, coordinating outside counsel as needed.
●      Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting home equity investments and residential real estate finance, and proactively adjust policies, forms, and processes.
●      Partner cross-functionally with origination, operations, marketing, and product teams to enable growth while managing legal and regulatory risk.

The on-target earnings for this position are $240,000 to $300,000, inclusive of a base salary and a biannual bonus based on company, team, and individual success.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

About You
●      7+ years of legal experience, with a preferred combination of law firm, regulatory agency, and/or in-house experience at a loan originator or comparable consumer finance company
●      JD required, with active bar membership in good standing in a US state
●      Strong familiarity with consumer finance and residential mortgage products, or closely related regulated financial products, and the regulatory frameworks that govern them
●      Working knowledge of consumer protection requirements, including UDAAP and fair lending principles.
●      Experience advising on privacy and data security compliance (e.g., GLBA, CCPA) preferred
●      Experience drafting and negotiating vendor, title, escrow, or other transaction-support agreements.
●      Experience managing litigation, consumer complaints, or disputes preferred
●      Sound, business-oriented judgment with the ability to give clear, actionable advice under time pressure
●      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal risk in plain English to non-lawyers
●      Desire to participate in fast-paced early-stage startup
●      Adaptability: Embraces changing circumstances with resiliency, sense of humor, and positivity
●      Team-Oriented: Prioritizes collaboration, inclusivity, and teammate support

About Us
Millions of homeowners in today’s economy are sitting on substantial home equity they are unable to access due to rising interest rates and strict qualification requirements of traditional lenders. That means millions of homeowners can’t convert their hard-earned equity into cash to pay off debt, start a home renovation, or pad their retirement to better their lives.

Splitero co-founders Michael Gifford and David Zvaifler witnessed the problem firsthand throughout their real estate careers. They set out to create a win-win product that could help those homeowners access their home equity but not make monthly payments like traditional financing options. And thus, Splitero was born.

As part of our team, you will join our quest to revolutionize the real estate industry while helping families in need. We offer a suite of benefits designed to help you thrive in all areas of life.

●      Premium Healthcare - We offer comprehensive healthcare plans for you and your family, which employees are eligible for on their first day.
●      Flexible PTO and Parental Leave - We offer a generous PTO and encourage employees to take time off to recharge. We're proud to offer a parental leave policy that allows you to welcome your new addition without worry.
