Support GP stakes investing by leading financial models and diligence, conducting market and competitive research, sourcing and outreach to GPs, drafting investment committee materials, and performing ad hoc valuation, LP reporting, and fundraising support on a small team.
Company name: Apogem Capital
Location Designation: Hybrid - 4 days per week
About Apogem Capital
Apogem is a leading private markets solutions provider with decades of experience focused on the middle market. With approximately $44 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2025, Apogem partners with institutional investors to deliver disciplined underwriting, strategic capital deployment and long-term value creation.
Apogem Capital operates within the New York Life Investment Management platform of companies, supported by the financial strength and long-term stability of a Fortune 100 mutual organization.
RidgeLake is a passive minority-equity partner to middle-market private alternative investment firms.
We take a deep look at a wide universe of GPs each year and a small number of high-conviction partnerships. Most of our time is spent developing proprietary relationships with sponsors - often originated through the broader Apogem platform, which manages roughly $42 billion across alternatives and credit, a sourcing reach that's hard to replicate at our size. Done well, by the time a sponsor is ready to take outside capital, we're already in the conversation.
For the Associate, the seat is uncommon in what it combines: direct investment work, breadth across a wide cross-section of middle-market PE, and the perpetual nature of GP Stakes positions. You see how firms are built - fundraising, investing, retention, succession - and stay close enough, long enough, to understand what actually drives the outcomes.
Where you'll spend time:
On AI
AI makes a lot of the day-to-day faster, which means more time on the work that actually compounds - meeting GPs, building views, joining the investment debate. We expect heavy use of the tools and rigorous review of their output - enough to spot what's off, understand what was done, and not pass anything through you can't stand behind.
What You'll Bring:

You see how firms are built - fundraising, investing, retention, succession - and stay close enough, long enough, to understand what actually drives the outcomes.
Where you'll spend time:
- Deals. You sit alongside the senior team on active diligence - banked processes and proprietary opportunities. You lead the model, run market and competitive work, join management calls, and draft IC materials.
- Pipeline. Direct outreach to target GPs and intermediaries, often through the broader Apogem network, and supporting senior team outreach end to end.
- Research. Studying firms in our universe and the segments they operate in - where returns are actually coming from in middle-market PE, which strategies are working, and how we sharpen our framework for evaluating sponsors.
- Wearing multiple hats. We're a small team. A modest share of any given month - usually around 10% - is ad hoc work across valuation, LP reporting, or fundraising.

We expect heavy use of the tools and rigorous review of their output - enough to spot what's off, understand what was done, and not pass anything through you can't stand behind.
What You'll Bring:
- Curiosity. Wants to understand sponsors and the firms they've built. Enjoys getting in the weeds on the underlying portfolio - every diligence brings a different set of industries and business models. Asks the questions partners aren't volunteering.
- Persistence. Drives hard problems to closure. The work runs on long cycles - sourcing relationships, multi-month diligences - and goes to people who don't lose the thread.
- Sharp judgment. Especially when handling confidential and sensitive information. The role places trust early.
- Clear communication. Concise, both written and verbal.
- Technical foundation. Advanced Excel and PowerPoint, financial modeling, investment valuation, and familiarity with PitchBook / Preqin / CapIQ.
- Required: 2 to 4 years of post-graduate experience in private equity, investment banking, M&A, leveraged finance, or consulting.
