Grow Therapy is on a mission to serve as the trusted partner for therapists growing their practice, and patients accessing high-quality care. Powered by technology, we are a three-sided marketplace that empowers providers, augments insurance payors, and serves patients. Following the mass increase in depression and anxiety, the need for accessibility is more important than ever. To make our vision for mental healthcare a reality, we’re building a team of entrepreneurs and mission-driven go-getters. Since launching in February 2021, we’ve empowered more than ten thousand therapists and hundreds of thousands of clients across the country and insurance landscape. We’ve raised more than $328Mm in funding, including our Series D, at a $3B valuation from Sequoia Capital, Transformation Capital, TCV, SignalFire, Menlo Ventures, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and others.
We are looking for an experienced Authorization Supervisor to build and own our authorization function. This is a workstream that has outgrown its original home inside Eligibility and is now one of the most complex, highest-risk parts of our Pre-Bill operation, covering our WellHive partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Employee Assistance Program (EAP) partners (Cigna, Octave, Optum), and Kaiser populations.
You'll own the authorization-denial pipeline at the trend level, manage the Authorization Specialist and our outsourced authorization-entry team, and serve as the primary relationship owner for authorization-specific issues with key payer and partner contacts. You'll report directly to the Pre-Bill Operations Manager and work closely with the Eligibility, Billing, and Coding supervisors.
This function increasingly runs on data and workflow tooling rather than manual queue work, so this role is as much about building and maintaining automated processes as it is about managing a team.
What You'll Be Doing:
The Authorization function is one of the most complex and highest-risk parts of Grow's Pre-Bill operation. As Authorization Supervisor, you'll own it end-to-end: the denial pipeline, the team that processes authorizations, and the partner relationships that keep it running. This role leans more toward building than managing an existing queue, so you'll spend real time standing up workflows and automation, not just overseeing one.
In this role, you will...
Own the authorization denial pipeline at the trend level, identifying root causes across payers and driving resolution rather than fixing claims one at a time
Build and maintain automated workflows that reduce manual authorization work over time
Manage and develop an authorization team, including staffing, quality audits, and productivity standards
Own key partner relationships for authorization-specific issues, including escalations and process improvements
Represent the authorization function in cross-functional conversations with payor partnerships on escalation and process improvement
Partner with Billing, Eligibility, and Coding to resolve cross-functional authorization issues and escalate systemic trends
Prepare the function for new frameworks and partnerships as Grow expands
You'll Be a Good Fit If:
You have 3+ years of experience in authorization, utilization management, patient access, or medical billing, including at least 1 year in a people management role
You're SQL-fluent or can ramp up quickly, and you're comfortable directing and verifying data-driven, automated workflows, even if you're not writing every query yourself
You have prior people management experience, ideally in authorization, utilization management, or patient access
You're analytically minded and can spot a denial trend across payers rather than treating each case in isolation
You're comfortable owning external partner relationships and escalating issues professionally
You're process-driven and can build and enforce repeatable workflows for a high-volume, high-complexity function
You're adaptable and can ramp into a fast-moving, partially built environment without a long runway
Bonus points if you have:
Prior VA Community Care Network or other government payer authorization experience
Prior Employee Assistance Program experience (Cigna, Octave, or similar)
Experience building or scaling an operational function from an ad hoc or manual state
Hands-on SQL or workflow-automation experience, even self-taught
