About the Role
Backend Engineers design, build, operate, and maintain the various cloud-based services that power Hinge. You’ll solve complex technical challenges and own a significant portion of the software stack that allows millions of users to find meaningful connections. You’ll write high-quality code, design reliable systems, and operate the software that you build by taking part in on-call.
As a Backend Engineer, you’ll also be part of a diverse cross-functional team that includes partners in Product, Data Science, ML, iOS, Android, and Data Engineering. You’ll help define and implement the technical strategy for how we innovate in multiple product areas.
Responsibilities
- Design and build Web APIs for a microservice architecture.
- Build out features for an internal React-based web application used for Moderation.
- Taking part in the backend On-Call rotation (around a week per quarter)
- Design and develop distributed systems in Go using cloud infrastructure, ensuring high performance and scalability.
- Lead projects end-to-end from technical design to implementation, while managing personal workload, meetings and timelines effectively.
- Collaborate across teams, promoting a culture of inclusivity, growth, and strong cross-functional communication.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of industry experience as a backend/service engineer
- 1+ year experience with building and maintaining React web applications (Javascript, Typescript, CSS)
- 2+ years of experience working in a cloud environment such as GCP, AWS, Azure.
- Strong programming skills: Familiarity with Go is a bonus!
- System Design & Architecture: Familiarity with distributed computing concepts
- Collaboration and Communication skills: Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas to teammates.
- Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, gRPC/Protobuf, etc.
