Role Overview:

The Managing Director of Intelligence is a senior security leader responsible for developing and leading security intelligence efforts to protect the company’s people, assets, operations, and reputation. Reporting to the Chief Security Officer, this role oversees intelligence collection, analysis, reporting, and stakeholder engagement across the business.

Responsibilities:

Intelligence Program Leadership

  • Design, build, and lead a global intelligence and threat assessment function for the firm.
  • Develop security intelligence strategies, operating procedures, and reporting frameworks.
  • Establish intelligence collection, analysis, dissemination, and escalation protocols aligned with business priorities and risk considerations.
  • Create scalable intelligence capabilities supporting corporate offices, executive protection, employee travel, portfolio companies, and investment opportunities.
  • Build a high-performing intelligence team with expertise in geopolitical analysis, protective intelligence, investigations, and threat management.

Threat Intelligence & Monitoring

  • Lead proactive analysis of geopolitical, criminal, terrorism, civil unrest, insider, reputational, and targeted violence threats impacting the firm and its investments.
  • Deliver strategic intelligence assessments to executive leadership and investment stakeholders.
  • Establish regional and global threat monitoring capabilities with actionable alerting and escalation processes.
  • Develop threat models related to activist campaigns, executive targeting, workplace violence, sanctions impact, and supply chain disruption.
  • Integrate open-source intelligence, commercial intelligence platforms, government liaison relationships, and internal reporting channels into a unified intelligence picture.

Executive Protection & Employee Safety

  • Partner with executive protection and corporate security teams to support protective intelligence operations for senior executives and high-profile employees.
  • Oversee travel risk intelligence, event security intelligence, and crisis monitoring for global employee deployments.
  • Develop behavioral threat assessment and targeted violence prevention capabilities.
  • Support incident response and crisis management during emergencies affecting personnel or business operations.

Investment & Portfolio Company Support

  • Advise portfolio company leadership on emerging threats and collaborate on mitigation strategy
  • Develop scalable intelligence products and advisory services for portfolio companies operating in elevated-risk jurisdictions or sectors.
  • Assess emerging risks affecting critical infrastructure, real estate, private equity, credit, insurance, and alternative asset investments.

Crisis Management & Investigations

  • Contribute intelligence support for crisis management teams and business continuity operations.
  • Support sensitive internal investigations in partnership with Legal, HR, Compliance, and Internal Audit.
  • Contribute to post-incident intelligence reviews and lessons-learned processes.

External Engagement & Partnerships

  • Build trusted relationships with law enforcement, intelligence community partners, peer institutions, industry groups, and external intelligence providers.
  • Represent the firm in public-private intelligence and security forums.
  • Evaluate and manage third-party security intelligence vendors, travel security providers, and analytical security platforms.

Qualifications:

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Intelligence Studies, Criminal Justice, International Relations, Homeland Security, or a related discipline preferred.
  • 20+ years of experience in intelligence community, national security, law enforcement, military or corporate security, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience within the United States Intelligence Community (USCI)
  • Established existing relationships with law enforcement, intelligence community partners, and government agencies preferred.
  • Industry certifications or relevant professional credentials in intelligence, security, investigations, are helpful.
  • Experience operating at the intersection of policy, security and commercial decision-making
  • Strong expertise converting complex intelligence into clear business and investment insights
  • Experience developing intelligence products, threat assessments, investigative reports, and strategic risk briefings.
  • Strong understanding of emerging security risks impacting corporate environments, executives, employees, portfolio companies, and business operations.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining trusted relationships with internal teams, external partners, government agencies, law enforcement, industry associations, and portfolio companies’ representatives.
  • Familiarity with open-source intelligence tools, alerting platforms, social media monitoring, crime data, incident management systems, and other intelligence resources.
  • Proven experience delivering intelligence to senior business leaders and decision makers

Expected annual base salary range:

$275,000 - $300,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.
Additional compensation and benefits offered in connection with the role consist of comprehensive health benefits, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, and FSA benefits; paid time off; life insurance; 401(k) plan; and discretionary bonuses. Certain employees may also be eligible for equity and other incentive compensation at Blackstone’s sole discretion.
