The Role:

Blue Owl Insurance Solutions (BOIS) is Blue Owl’s insurance-focused asset management business, partnering with insurance companies to deliver customized investment solutions across private credit, asset-based finance, real estate, and other alternative asset classes. BOIS leverages Blue Owl’s global platform, origination capabilities, and investment expertise to help insurers achieve their return, capital, and liability management objectives. BOIS serves nearly 100 insurance clients and manages more than $30 billion of insurance-related assets. Blue Owl seeks an Associate-level professional in its New York office to join the Strategic Investment team. The Strategic Investment team supports the activities of BOIS across strategic partnerships & investments, asset structuring, and capital markets activities. This role represents a unique opportunity to work across multiple strategic, transaction driven, elements of the insurance ecosystem focusing both on equity style investing and asset origination & structuring.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the evaluation, diligence, negotiation, and execution of strategic transactions with insurance companies, including M&A, minority equity investments, reinsurance transactions, investment management agreements, and bespoke capital solutions

  • Underwrite equity investments in specialty finance and origination platforms that generate attractive assets for insurance companies, including analysis of origination volumes, unit economics, asset quality, funding structures, and forward-flow arrangements

  • Assist in the evaluation, acquisition, and structuring of asset portfolios to meet insurance company objectives

  • Support the structuring of investment solutions tailored to insurance company objectives, including rated feeder structures, collateralized fund obligations, and other capital-efficient formats across Blue Owl's credit, asset-based finance, and real estate strategies

  • Build and maintain financial models, including transaction models, insurer capital analysis, rating agency capital frameworks, and relative value analysis

  • Conduct due diligence on counterparties and targets, including review of financial filings, actuarial reports, investment portfolios, and regulatory considerations

  • Prepare investment committee memoranda, board materials, and client presentations

  • Coordinate transaction execution across internal origination teams, legal counsel, rating agencies, and external advisors

  • Monitor existing strategic partnerships and portfolio investments, including ongoing financial and capital reporting

  • Track insurance industry trends, competitor platform activity, and regulatory developments affecting insurer investment behavior

  • Support BOIS strategic development including preparation of internal and external materials

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • 2+ years of experience in investment banking (FIG, M&A or capital markets / structuring backgrounds preferred), insurance corporate development, actuarial advisory, asset based finance (investing or structuring), or a comparable role at an alternative asset manager with an insurance solutions platform

  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills; experience with insurance company financial statements (GAAP and statutory) preferred

  • Leverage AI as a tool to drive efficiency.

  • Experience with insurance, reinsurance, or broader FIG strongly preferred (i.e., accounting, capital frameworks, investment structuring, rating agency considerations).

  • Exposure to structured credit, securitization, or fund finance a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce investment-committee-quality materials with limited oversight

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams in a lean team environment

  • High degree of ownership, intellectual curiosity, and collaboration across teams 

The base annual salary range for this New York City-based position will be $110,000 to $155,000. Actual salary offered will be based on the candidate’s skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
