What is a Business Development Associate?
A Business Development Associate (BDA) is a member of the New Business Services group. Business Development Associates are primarily responsible for project management of underground residential distribution (URD) developments and residential gas conversion expansion projects.
What does a Business Development Associate do?
Acts as the single point of contact for new residential gas customers and URD developers
Develops URD contracts and manages the financial instruments used for securing deposits
Conducts planning, negotiation, business case cost-benefit analysis, and management of projects from inception to completion
Individually or in a team, interfaces with developers, contractors, engineers, customers, and internal work groups to plan, design and direct construction of residential gas and URD projects
Provides information on applicable tariffs, rates, contracts, construction standards, gas and electric specifications and end use appliance equipment and operation
Resolves issues regarding rates, area and streetlight billing and quality of service while maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction
Performs key account management of natural gas trade ally contractors, conducts gas marketing and business case analysis in order to identify residential gas opportunities
Conducts residential gas trade ally contractor outreach, manages municipal street lighting, leased area lighting, and new service requests
Responsible for supervisor on call duties, completes additional assignments, and acts on behalf of other Company supervisors as assigned
Assists during major electric and gas emergency events
Assists the New Business team in Commercial Collections efforts
Provides support for storm restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Business Development Associate?
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Communication, or related field and some work experience in customer service, account management, project management, construction management, electric/gas services, utility operations or a related field. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Communication, or related field and 3 years of work experience in customer service, account management, project management, construction management, electric/gas services, utility operations or a related field. In lieu of an associates degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of work experience in customer service, account management, project management, construction management, electric/gas services, utility operations or a related field.
Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
Excellent written/verbal communication and negotiation skills and the ability to satisfy customer requests with tact and diplomacy
Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while scheduling, planning and working on multiple projects simultaneously from inception through completion
Must be customer-focused, self-motivated and possess strong decision-making and critical thinking skills
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
Technical, construction, natural gas or electric services knowledge/background
Experience in the electric or gas utility industry
