About Us:

Modal provides the infrastructure foundation for AI teams. With instant GPU access, sub-second container startups, and native storage, Modal makes it simple to train models, run batch jobs, and serve low-latency inference. Companies like Suno, Lovable, and Substack rely on Modal to move from prototype to production without the burden of managing infrastructure.

We're a fast-growing team based out of NYC, SF, and Stockholm. We've hit high 8-figure ARR and recently raised a Series B at a $1.1B valuation. We have thousands of customers who rely on us for production AI workloads, including Lovable, Scale AI, Substack, and Suno.

Working at Modal means joining one of the fastest-growing AI infrastructure organizations at an early stage, with many opportunities to grow within the company. Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g. Seaborn, Luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.

The Role:

We’re hiring Business Development Representatives (BDR) to help build Modal’s go-to-market engine from the ground up. As a BDR, you’ll be on the front lines of our growth — engaging with founders, engineers, and executives at AI-native startups and enterprises to generate pipeline for our sales team.

This role is perfect for someone early in their sales career who wants to break into the AI infrastructure space, learn directly from experienced AEs and founders, and grow into a quota-carrying sales role over time. You’ll get hands-on exposure to some of the most ambitious AI companies in the world while helping shape the systems and processes that will power Modal’s GTM motion. In this role, you will:

  • Own outbound prospecting to high-potential startups and enterprises, using creative outreach across email, phone, LinkedIn, and events

  • Qualify inbound leads and ensure a smooth handoff to AEs

  • Research target accounts and tailor outreach to technical buyers (ML engineers, infra leads, CTOs)

  • Partner with AEs to build territory strategies and account plans

  • Track and measure activity rigorously in our CRM, ensuring predictable pipeline generation

  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to share customer feedback and sharpen messaging

  • Be a visible presence in the AI startup ecosystem by attending demo days, meetups, and online communities

Requirements:
  • 1–2+ years of experience in sales, business development, or customer-facing roles (internships and SDR programs count)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable reaching out cold to founders and technical audiences

  • High energy, resilience, and hustle to hit activity and pipeline goals

  • Curiosity about AI, infrastructure, and developer tools. Eagerness to learn the space quickly

  • Organized and self-directed, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment

  • Coachable and collaborative: open to feedback, motivated to improve, and excited to grow into a sales career

  • Ability to work in-person from our office 5 days a week
