About the RoleWe're hiring a Business Operations Manager to work directly with our leadership team. This is a generalist operator role: you'll work across whatever the company needs most, with a meaningful focus on new vertical expansion.
At any given time, that might look like sizing a new market, running a design partner pilot with a PE-backed operator, building a financial model for a leadership decision, or owning a cross-functional initiative that doesn't have a clear home yet. The scope is wide by design. We're at a stage where the right person can shape what this function looks like and what they grow into.
What You'll DoYour work will span two primary areas, with room to flex as the company's priorities evolve.
New Vertical Expansion
New verticals is Avoca's growth frontier. You'll help drive the 0-to-1 motion for bringing Avoca into new markets, identifying where to play, structuring and running early pilots, translating what you learn in the field into product direction, and turning early traction into repeatable revenue.
Define ICP and entry strategy for new verticals, identify the right operators, the right use cases, and the right wedge
Structure and run design partner pilots from kickoff to first contracted ARR
Lead discovery and implementation calls, engage executive stakeholders and PE-backed operators directly
Translate field insights into structured product briefs and work closely with Engineering to scope and prioritize
Build repeatable GTM playbooks as verticals graduate from pilot to scale
Travel to customer sites and industry events as needed, roughly once a month
Business Operations and Strategic Projects
Beyond new verticals, you'll work on high-priority initiatives across the company. The specific projects will vary, but the through-line is consistent: own it end-to-end and move fast.
Own cross-functional initiatives that don't have a clear home, from GTM process design to PE partnership infrastructure to operational reporting
Build financial models, business cases, and analysis to support leadership decisions
Identify and close gaps in how the company operates, from process, tooling, data, or coordination
Support the founders and leadership team on special projects and strategic priorities
Act as connective tissue between product, GTM, and customer-facing teams
3-6 years in consulting, investing, or high-growth startups, ideally with some time in an operating role
Demonstrated ability to own a complex, cross-functional initiative from start to finish
Strong analytical foundation: comfortable building models, sizing markets, and pressure-testing assumptions
Comfort operating in ambiguous environments where the problem isn't handed to you
Strong written and verbal communication with both operators in the field and executives in the boardroom
High agency: you create clarity where none exists and move without waiting to be told
Bonus points:
Experience with vertical SaaS, AI-enabled products, or services businesses
Background working with PE-backed platforms or multi-location operators
Direct customer-facing or field experience in B2B
You've operated in environments where the answer wasn't handed to you — and you're better for it
You're a structured thinker who can simplify genuinely complex problems
You enjoy being in the field, talking to operators, and building real relationships, not just running analysis from a laptop
You want to be in-office in NYC, surrounded by people who move fast and hold themselves to a high standard
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
Company-sponsored 401(k) through Vestwell
Flexible PTO plus U.S. federal holidays
Company-wide off-sites
Daily in-office lunch through Parkday
Dinner covered when working late
Commuter benefits and late-night rideshare
Standing desks and workspace accommodations available on request
All core tools and software provided
Compensation: The expected base salary for this role is $160,000-$220,000 with final compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications determined during the interview process. Avoca’s total compensation package includes base salary, bonus, equity, and a comprehensive suite of benefits and perks. Our Recruiting team will share the full details as you progress through our hiring process.
