Description:

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Global Security team at Marsh. This role will be based in New York City. This is a hybrid role that requires working at least three days a week in the office.

The Chief Security Officer (CSO) will be responsible for the strategy, governance, and execution of enterprise security operations across Marsh’s global footprint, protecting more than 95,000 colleagues across 130+ countries and hundreds of offices worldwide. This role ensures the safety of colleagues, clients, facilities, and assets while enabling business operations in complex and evolving threat environments.

Reporting to senior executive leadership, the CSO will oversee Physical Security, Executive Protection, Crisis Management, Protective Intelligence, Investigations, the Workplace Violence Program, Travel Risk Management, Guard Force Management, and Global Security Operations. The position will partner closely with business leadership, cybersecurity, legal, risk, human resources, business resiliency management, and regional leadership teams.

This role is based in New York City and requires global, regional, and local travel.

We will count on you for:

Security Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the global security strategy aligned with Marsh enterprise risk priorities.

  • Serve as the senior advisor to executive leadership on security risk and geopolitical developments.

  • Lead the design and governance of global security policies, standards, and operating procedures.

  • Represent security at the executive leadership level, providing strategic risk assessments and briefings.

Global Security Operations

  • Oversee security programs protecting global offices, employees, and operations across multiple regions.

  • Lead global security operations centers (GSOC), regional Security Directors, and teams.

  • Implement enterprise-wide physical security standards and technologies including access control, video surveillance, and security systems governance in partnership with the Director of Global Physical Security Systems.

  • Manage operations and work closely with regional Security Directors.

  • Direct vendor and guard force management globally.

Executive Protection

  • Work with the Manager of Executive Protection Operations to develop and manage executive protection programs for senior leadership, high-profile executives, and large corporate functions.

  • Through the operations of the intelligence desk and other functions, provide protective intelligence to identify threats against the company and its principals. Provide oversight of executive functions at various locations, and make determinations for security support to be virtual or on-site depending on the risk assessment and number of colleagues attending.

  • Conduct executive threat assessments and mitigation strategies.

  • Working with the Global Director of Physical Security Systems, manage the implementation of intrusion detection systems at executive residences.

  • Oversee and work with Chief Legal Counsel on IRS 132 code compliance reviews for executives with close protection services.

Intelligence & Risk Monitoring

  • Establish a global protective intelligence capability monitoring geopolitical, criminal, and activist threats.

  • Provide timely security intelligence reporting to leadership.

  • Assess risks related to geopolitical instability, civil unrest, terrorism, and insider threats.

Investigations & Insider Risk

  • Assist in internal investigations related to security incidents, threats, workplace violence, and fraud in coordination with the Chief Compliance Officer, Legal, and HR.

  • Oversee the workplace violence prevention, response, and training program, including investigations, risk assessments of cases, and strategies to prevent domestic violence from entering the workforce. Work with relevant law enforcement agencies as required.

  • Implement strategies to prevent and respond to insider threats.

  • Manage investigative partnerships with Human Resources, Employee Relations, Legal, and Risk Management, and work with law enforcement and regulatory agencies on criminal matters involving company employees, property, and intellectual property thefts.

Global Travel Safety Program

  • Oversee global travel risk management program, ensuring employees traveling internationally, and domestically in certain cases, receive security guidance and support. Manage colleague pre-trip advice and guidance to high-risk destinations, oversee the company employee overage policy on airline flights, provide in-depth analysis of trips to high-risk destinations. Coordinate close protection internationally when required.

  • Oversee the companywide Emergency Hotline used by colleagues globally to contact management for various types of assistance, including health emergencies and security support, among others.

  • Manage relationships with major international risk management partners, and participate in the United States - State Department Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) and other governmental, state, and local authorities.

  • Maintain oversight and guidance for management and personnel operating in high-risk environments.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with leaders across technology, cybersecurity, legal, human resources, facilities, and enterprise risk management.

  • Build strong relationships with government, law enforcement, intelligence, and private-sector partners.

  • Be or become a member of the International Security Management Association (ISMA) and collaborate with peers on global security threats, initiatives, and practices.

  • Represent Marsh in industry security forums and professional organizations.

What you need to have:

  • 10+ years of progressive security leadership experience, ideally within a global corporation, government security service, or large complex organization.

  • Demonstrated leadership managing global security programs and teams.

  • Experience protecting senior executives and advising C-suite leadership on security strategies, programs, and resources to mitigate risks to the organization.

  • Background in protective intelligence, crisis management, and geopolitical risk analysis.

  • Experience working in complex multinational environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in security management, international relations, public administration, or related field.

All Marsh colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $207,300 to $342,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
