College Aide - Curb Management

The NYC DOT’s Division of Transportation Planning & Management is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, and ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The Office of Curb Management within the Division of Transportation Planning & Management is responsible for curb policies across the city’s 6,300 miles of streets and roughly 3 million curbside parking spaces, with a focus on improving safety, reducing double parking, and better managing competing demands from loading zones and deliveries to charging infrastructure and waste containerization to support safer, more efficient streets across the city.
NYC DOT is seeking a dynamic college aide with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, curious, collaborative, and positive, with strong organizational, communication, analytical, data management, presentation, and visualization skills. Working within the Office of Curb Management, the applicant will assist with a variety of curb management programs, mainly the Clean Curbs and Empire Bins Waste Containerization Programs.
This position will support the effective and timely delivery of NYC DOT’s program responsibilities, collaborating closely with various NYC DOT units, partner agency DSNY, and Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) across the city.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Manage NYC DOT’s internal tracking of proposed curb programming for conflict checks in the review/approval of waste container locations.
- Reviewing applications, coordinating reviews with internal units, tracking internal communications and conflicts, and delivering application determinations in the required timeframe.
- Documenting and escalating application-level issues and discrepancies with DSNY/process-level issues and discrepancies with supervisor and internal DOT units.
- Maintaining a list of contacts and units for outreach with a comprehensive understanding of their respective oversight areas.
- Monitoring the impact of the program on NYC DOT programming and operations through quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Consolidating key issues, updates, and opportunities for weekly check-ins with the supervisor.
- Maintaining program statistics to share key metrics and findings with NYC DOT leadership.

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
