About OpenAI

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. We build models and products that help people learn, create, and solve problems, and we work to do so safely and responsibly.

About the team

Our Community team builds direct relationships with people who use our technology, channels their insights back to product and research teams, and amplifies their stories so others can learn from them.

The Student Community team is building OpenAI Student Collective, a global program that equips students with community, resources, and support to help their peers build AI capability, confidence, and opportunity. Students are often among the first to discover new ways to learn, build, create, and organize with AI. Our job is to find those examples, support the students behind them, and help their stories travel.

About the Role

We’re looking for a high-agency program operator to help run and scale OpenAI’s student community efforts across the Americas.

You will own the systems and operating rhythms that keep the program moving, coordinate execution across North America and Latin America, and help the team identify and resolve gaps as the program grows. You should be comfortable creating structure from ambiguity, managing complex details, and moving between program operations, regional coordination, and direct student support.

This person should be equally comfortable building a clean tracker, writing a weekly update, chasing down missing information, coordinating across cross-functional and external partners, or helping a Campus Lead troubleshoot a workshop on campus.

What You’ll Do
  • Run day-to-day program operations across recruitment, candidate review, onboarding, student support, activations, and end-of-cycle programming.

  • Build, maintain, and improve Airtable and other source-of-truth systems for student recruitment, selection, onboarding, events, reporting, and feedback.

  • Own dashboards and weekly reporting that show program progress, risks, blockers, decisions, and next steps.

  • Help coordinate across Experience, Localization, Editorial, Strategy & Ops, agency partners, and cross-functional teams to close dependencies and keep work on track.

  • Build operating rhythms, templates, checklists, documentation, and handoff processes that help the program scale.

  • Partner with community managers to capture student needs, product feedback, program gaps, standout use cases, and emerging regional trends.

  • Surface unclear ownership or missing support early and drive agreed next steps through completion.

What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in program management, community operations, field marketing, campus programs, creator/community programs, or a related role.

  • Strong systems thinker with hands-on experience building and maintaining Airtable, CRM, project management, or workflow systems.

  • Excellent execution skills in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams across people, timelines, tools, and deliverables.

  • Strong written communication skills, especially for updates, recaps, documentation, and stakeholder reporting.

  • Comfort working across internal teams, agencies, contractors, and regional partners.

  • High ownership, low ego, and willingness to jump into messy problems.

  • Strong interest in AI and how students are using it to learn, build, and create.

  • Familiarity with Slack, Google Workspace, Airtable, Luma, and community management tools.

Bonus
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language proficiency.

  • Experience with student, campus, developer, creator, or education communities.

  • Experience supporting programs across the US, Canada, and/or LATAM.

  • Experience working with agencies or distributed global teams.

  • Experience building operational systems from scratch.

  • Deep curiosity and fluency with AI tools. You should be actively using tools like ChatGPT, Codex, or creative AI tools, and paying attention to how others are using them.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is part program operator, part community builder, and part systems architect. They can bring order to ambiguity, keep a lot of moving pieces organized, and build the infrastructure that lets a small team operate like a much larger one. They are energized by students, curious about AI, and comfortable moving between strategy, operations, and execution.
