As an SPP Contract Specialist, you will help move business forward by shaping clear, compliant, and commercially sound agreements for our promotional products business. Working with attorney supervision when needed, you will partner with internal teams and third parties to review, draft, and negotiate contracts, address contract questions, support regulatory research, and improve contracting processes. This is an opportunity to combine legal knowledge, business judgment, and practical problem-solving in a highly collaborative role with broad visibility across the organization.


What you will be doing:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, including services, vendor, manufacturing, licensing, merchandising, and related contracts.

  • Lead contract discussions with counterparties, keeping timelines, open issues, and approvals moving toward resolution.

  • Help internal teams apply approved contract standards and route exceptions or higher-risk issues for attorney review.

  • Maintain accurate contract information in Staples contract management systems and support a centralized, accessible contract repository.

  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and summarize practical takeaways for attorney and business review.

  • Support training for internal teams on contract and legal topics, including updates arising from legal or process changes.

  • Analyze contract data, obligations, and performance indicators to identify risks, efficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Organize cross-functional contracting initiatives, ensuring stakeholders understand next steps, dependencies, and deadlines.

  • Exercise sound judgment within defined parameters, balancing business objectives with legal, financial, operational, and compliance considerations.

What’s needed: Basic Qualifications:

  • 4 to 6 years of experience supporting commercial contracts.

  • Experience drafting and negotiating contracts and a solid understanding of legal terminology and contract-formation principles.

  • Experience conducting legal or regulatory research and preparing clear summaries for business or legal audiences.

  • Experience managing multiple contract-related projects, priorities, or workstreams from intake through completion.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to learn and work effectively in internal and external databases.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with appropriate care and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Paralegal certification.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience supporting eCommerce, marketing, sales, or promotional products businesses.

  • Experience using contract lifecycle management tools, contract data, or standardized templates to improve workflow consistency.

  • Demonstrated ability to transfer prior legal and business knowledge to new and changing fact patterns.
