Job Description

The Commission to Combat Police Corruption (“CCPC”) was created in 1995 in response to the findings of the Mollen Commission, which recommended that an independent monitor be established to monitor and evaluate New York City Police Department (“NYPD”) anti-corruption measures and to ensure that the NYPD is vigilant in combatting corruption among its members. As that independent monitor, the Commission is responsible for performing audits, studies, and analyses to assess the quality of the NYPD's systems for preventing, detecting, and investigating allegations of corruption or serious misconduct. The six-member Commission also evaluates the sufficiency of any discipline imposed on officers found to have committed misconduct or violated the NYPD's rules or guidelines. The Commission advises City Hall about any corruption-related trends or issues it detects and makes recommendations for improvement directly to the NYPD. The Commission currently has seven full-time employees.

The Commission seeks an enthusiastic, high-energy individual who, under the direction of the Executive Director, will establish and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and other governmental entities on behalf of the Commission and coordinate the daily operations of the office. As the Commission's Coordinator for External Relations & Executive Assistant, this individual will need to balance responsibilities for external relations with responsibilities for efficient office operations. As this is a new position, this individual will have the opportunity to develop more precise parameters for responsibilities going forward, but a summary of the basic responsibilities follows:

External Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, advocates, and community-based organizations on behalf of CCPC.
- Coordinate intergovernmental/public affairs activities with other agencies and organizations.
- Prepare public announcements and press releases and serve as a point of contact for public information and the press on the activities and reports of CCPC.
- Monitor daily news clippings and tracking agency-related media coverage.
- Maintain the agency website, including producing content.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of critical issues in police oversight and criminal justice policy and flag relevant materials for the Executive Director, Commissioners, and agency staff.
- Prepare Commissioners, Executive Director, and agency staff for internal and external meetings.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and documents, including original research on matters related to police oversight.
- Process complaints from members of the public regarding the NYPD that may be received by the CCPC.
Daily Operations
- Maintain CCPC's internal calendar.
- Coordinate office logistics.
- Recordkeeping, including maintaining and tracking reimbursement forms.
- Liaise with information technology, human resources, and other administrative offices on behalf of staff.
- Assist with human resource tasks, such as onboarding and employee benefits administration.
- Clerical duties such as answering phones and responding to emails.
- Perform various administrative tasks as needed.
If selected, the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation.
