Prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile balance sheet accounts, maintain accrual balances, review promotional accruals, and support quarterly reviews and year-end audits. Staff Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our finance/accounting team. This role is ideal for an early-career accounting professional looking to gain hands-on experience across general ledger accounting, internal controls, cross-functional collaboration, and financial operations.
This position offers a hybrid schedule requiring 2 days per week on-site in our Garden City
office and 3 days remote.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, record, and post monthly journal entries.
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure complete and accurate
financial records. - Execute daily maintenance tasks over accrual balances, monitoring balances to ensure
proper tracking, recording, and timely true-ups. - Review and assist with the approval of promotional accruals, ensuring proper
documentation and proper accounting treatment. - Prepare schedules, support documentation, and work papers for quarterly reviews and
year-end external audits. - Ensure documentation is compliant with internal controls
- Partner regularly with other departments (sales, AP, operations)
- Assist the Accounting Manager and Assistant controller with special projects and routine
process improvements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA track is a plus but not required
- 0–2 years of accounting experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, basic formulas).
- Familiarity with SAP is a plus.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and basic accounting concepts.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Capable of working under pressure and meeting targets and deadlines
- Must be able to adapt to changing in process or deadlines
