Own Synthetic’s visual identity across brand, marketing, and product. Define and maintain the brand, design and build websites and launch materials, and implement product features in TypeScript with SvelteKit alongside engineers. The role requires strong design taste, hands-on HTML/CSS/TypeScript skills, broad experience across brand, marketing, and product, and the ability to ship quickly in an early-stage environment.

About Synthetic

Building a software product has never been easier. But running the business side is still tedious as hell.

From contracts, to billing, to getting paid, to keeping the books, Synthetic handles the financial side of a software business from start to finish, so founders can get back to building.

The software companies that we're selling to have intense accounting pain. They have a QuickBooks account, a Stripe account, and an unholy menagerie of spreadsheets and agent workflows holding it together.

Instead of trying to throw an AI agent at broken software to try to fix it, we rebuilt all the software from the ground up. We rebuilt contracts, accounting, billing, invoicing, and payments. Then we wired up agents that do the busywork in between. The result is a tailor-made solution for software companies that "just works" out of the box. We can guarantee our customers that the numbers are correct, because we own every system that touches the numbers. And it looks visually stunning.

You can read more about us here. We recently raised $10M from investors like Khosla Ventures and Tobi Lütke. We're here to build a company that wins big, which is why we work in-person in our San Francisco office 6 days a week. But we care about winning, not larping, so we're flexible on hours.

About the Role

We'll be launching the product soon. We're hiring a Brand Designer to join our 7-person team and shape how Synthetic looks and feels everywhere. This is our second design hire. You'll work alongside our first designer and report directly to the founder.
We're looking for someone with exceptional visual taste who can turn ambitious ideas into work that actually ships. Your work will span brand, marketing, and product:

  • Brand. Shape Synthetic's visual identity, from typography and imagery to motion, art direction, and the details that make a brand recognizable.

  • Marketing. Design our website, launches, campaigns, social content, and everything else that introduces Synthetic to the world.

  • Product. Bring our brand into the product, working alongside our designer and engineers to make every interaction feel distinctly Synthetic.

  • Experiment. Explore tools like Cursor and Claude Code to prototype ideas and bring designs to life. You don't need to be an engineer, but you should be curious about what you can build.

We work fast. When you ship work it'll be in front of real customers within days or hours.

Job Requirements
  • Taste. You know great design when you see it, can explain why it works, and have a portfolio that proves you can make it.

  • Visual instinct. You have an exceptional eye for typography, composition, color, and the small details that make something memorable.

  • Range. You've created work across brand, web, marketing, or product that you're genuinely excited to show.

  • Ownership. You can take an ambiguous idea and turn it into something compelling without waiting for someone to tell you exactly what to do.

  • Digital fluency. You understand how design translates to the web and care about how your work looks, feels, and functions once it's live.

  • Curiosity. You're interested in AI-powered creative tools and what they make possible for designers, whether you've already used them or are just getting started.

  • Speed. You'd rather put something great into the world, learn from it, and iterate than spend weeks debating hypotheticals.

  • A severe bullshit allergy..

Compensation
  • $250K – $300K USD salary

  • 0.7% – 1% fully diluted equity

  • Health benefits (US only)

  • This role requires work authorization in the US, Canada, or Mexico. We don't sponsor visas for this role. Check out our SF in-person role instead.
