Sent is a unified messaging API that intelligently routes messages across SMS, WhatsApp, iMessage, and more. Our Intelligent Routing Model detects channel availability and preference to maximize reach while cutting messaging costs by up to 90% vs. traditional solutions.
Backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, Companyon Ventures, and UIF, we recently raised a $5.1M seed round and are scaling the platform for the next generation of business messaging.
The OpportunityThis is Sent's first dedicated DevRel hire, a true builder role. You'll define how developers discover, integrate, and advocate for Sent, from first message to production-grade multi-channel systems.
You will:
Create developer-facing assets: SDKs, samples, reference apps, workshops, launch content, and community touchpoints
Turn developer pain into product and documentation improvements
Reduce support load by making the common path obvious
Build a repeatable adoption engine: content + community + product feedback loops
Ideal for someone who ships code, teaches clearly, builds developer trust, and collaborates tightly with engineering and product.
What You'll OwnOnboarding ("Hello World → Production") Fast time-to-first-message, opinionated quickstarts for key use cases (OTP, transactional, support, marketing), and production readiness guidance (deliverability, compliance, retries, webhooks, failure modes).
Developer-Facing Code SDKs, starter kits, sample apps, and migration guides. Realistic demos built like good open source. Golden paths for key stacks (Node/TypeScript, Python, Go).
Content + Community Consistent technical content (posts, guides, videos, talks). Public presence where developers ask questions. Selective events strategy: conferences, workshops, partner moments.
Product Feedback Loop Voice-of-developer channel into Product/Engineering. Launch enablement (release notes, migration guidance). Clear metrics: activation, support deflection, SDK adoption, developer satisfaction.
RoadmapFirst 30 days: Learn Sent's API and core use cases. Audit docs, SDKs, and support tickets to identify top friction points. Ship at least one meaningful onboarding improvement. Define baseline metrics.
By 90 days: Launch golden-path quickstarts for 2–3 priority stacks. Establish consistent content cadence. Build a support-deflection loop (canonical answers, troubleshooting guides). Create a developer feedback pipeline into Product/Engineering.
By 180 days: Maintain trusted, versioned SDKs and starter kits. Build a recognizable Sent developer presence. Show measurable improvement in activation and support metrics. Propose a plan for scaling DevRel.
Must-haves
Strong engineering ability; you ship production-quality code and maintainable examples
Deep understanding of APIs, webhooks, async workflows, and integration patterns
Proven ability to explain complex systems simply through writing, speaking, or teaching
High output and consistency, you ship on a cadence
Empathy for developers: you identify what's confusing, missing, or blocking progress
Cross-functional collaboration skills
Nice-to-haves
Experience in developer advocacy, solutions engineering, or developer experience
Familiarity with CPaaS/messaging ecosystems (Twilio, MessageBird, SendGrid, Sinch, Vonage, Infobip)
Conference speaking or workshop experience
Public body of work (GitHub, blog, talks)
Qualities we evaluate
Insight: Make technical concepts clear without dumbing them down
Tactics: Earn attention for launches without hype
Grit: Sustain the content and community grind
Empathy: Understand developers at each stage (evaluation → integration → production → scale)
You'll build across the SDK/sample ecosystem. Comfort in at least one major backend ecosystem (TypeScript/Node, Python, Go) with ability to ramp on others. Familiarity with GitHub, CI, API testing, and basic frontend for demos.
TeamYou'll work closely with Engineering (API design, SDKs, launches), Product (roadmap feedback, onboarding), Docs/Support (deflection, troubleshooting), and GTM (technical enablement). High-trust, high-ownership role.
TravelPurposeful and selective: conferences, meetups, workshops, partner events. We'll align on what drives real adoption.
