This description is a wishlist, not a checklist. We want to find a super-amazing person to join our team, and we're well aware that “super-amazing" can come in all different forms. If you're a little less experienced on a specific bullet point, or if you didn't go to a fancy school, apply anyway. We look at candidates, not resumes.

About the Role

Nebula is looking for a Development Assistant to help shape a growing slate of Nebula Originals created in collaboration with some of the most thoughtful digital storytellers on the internet. This role directly supports the head of studios and the production team, functioning as a bridge between creative and logistical worlds. In addition to core development responsibilities such as evaluating pitches, organizing pitch materials, tracking projects from concept through early-stage production, you’ll manage scheduling, coordinate calls, and handle daily support tasks that keep studio leadership running smoothly. You’ll be a key point of connection as we turn ideas into greenlit projects.

The ideal candidate is both organized and creatively curious. You love stories, understand the language of storytelling across formats, and can translate creator-driven concepts into structured development materials. You’re as comfortable taking notes in a pitch meeting as you are building a project tracker, coordinating calendars, or researching comparable titles. You’re resourceful, proactive, and eager to learn how great ideas move from brainstorm to screen within an independent studio environment.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in film, television, or digital media, ideally within a development, creative, or production support role.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple projects and deadlines in fast-paced creative environments.
  • Professionalism and discretion in supporting a top-level executive, including scheduling meetings and calls, preparing agendas, and handling confidential information with discretion.
  • Familiarity with the development process from reading and evaluating pitches, treatments, or scripts to tracking emerging talent and production notes.
  • Excellent written communication and research abilities, with the capacity to synthesize ideas into clear notes, summaries, and creative decks.
  • Proficiency with tools like Notion, Keynote, Slack, and Dropbox for maintaining project trackers, grids, and creative archives
  • Curiosity about how ideas are shaped, pitched, and greenlit within a studio context.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for creator-led projects and helping digital storytellers bring their ideas to life on screen.
  • Located in the US, preferably in NYC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executive Support: manage scheduling, coordinate calls, track notes on prioritizing tasks, and handle confidential materials to support the head of studios.
  • Creative Development Support: assist in the evaluation of pitches, scripts, and treatments for potential Nebula Originals; organize notes, research, and follow-up materials for the development team.
  • Creator & Talent Coordination: communicate with digital creators and representatives to gather pitch decks, creative samples, and production materials, ensuring submissions and feedback stay on track.
  • Project Tracking: maintain and update development grids, project trackers, and calendars to reflect the current status of projects moving from ideas into the greenlight process.
  • Research and Coverage: conduct creative, market, and talent research to support development decisions; prepare concise coverage and comparables on pitched ideas for internal pitch review.
  • Materials Prep: assist in drafting creative decks, pitch documents, and presentation materials that translate creator ideas into studio-ready formats for consideration.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: partner with creators and Nebula’s development committee to continue refining Nebula’s development process, helping digital-first creators understand industry standards and storytelling frameworks.

Perks

  • Competitive salary between $70k–$85k USD or local international equivalent. We do not use formal job titles internally and similarly named positions may have different compensation levels. Actual starting salary will depend on various considerations, including: work experience, skills, specializations, training, and location.
  • Flexible work hours and vacation policy.
  • Fully work-from-home.
  • Diverse, socially-minded team of nice people.
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans (for US-based employees).
  • 401(k) and other benefits (for US-based employees).

About Us

Nebula is both the largest and fastest growing creator-built premium streaming service. We believe that the future of the creator economy should belong to the creators, and our responsibility is to empower and enable those creators. In 2024, we were listed as one of Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Companies”.

We're a distributed company. We have offices in NYC and Denver, but more than 80% of the team is remote, in exotic locations like the UK, the Netherlands, France, and Ohio.

There are things to do and meetings to be had, but we pride ourselves on our flexibility. We think this makes Nebula a great place to work for people with families, or whose productive hours tend to be outside of the 9-5. We care about what you do more than when you do it.

How We Hire

We think that diversity is important. Many of us have non-traditional backgrounds. We work in the online education space, so we understand how much can be learned on your own, on the Internet, and outside of a classroom.

If that sounds like you, we’re happy to care less how many years of experience you have or where you went to school. Apply anyway. And if you have any feedback on how we could reach or appeal to a more diverse pool of talent, get in touch.

Tip: “tv” is part of our domain, not our name.
