PRIMARY FUNCTION: 


The Director, AI Products & Solutions will lead the development, management and continuous improvement of AI-powered tools that advance ADL’s mission and strengthen organizational effectiveness. This position will oversee public-facing AI solutions for constituents and external partners, develop experimental and cutting-edge prototypes, build and maintain a portfolio of internal AI tools and provide consultation and technical support to staff pursuing advanced or custom AI applications. 


The Director will work closely with teams across ADL to translate programmatic needs into practical, responsible and effective AI solutions. This role combines product ownership, hands-on solution development, experimentation, platform administration and cross-functional partnership. The ideal candidate is both technically adept and deeply interested in how emerging technologies can help ADL protect, advocate and educate more effectively. 

Responsibilities

Public AI Solutions and Product Management 

  • Own the management, maintenance and continuous improvement of public-facing AI tools, including ADL’s Incident Response Assistant and K-12 Educator Assistant. 
  • Serve as product manager and oversee user feedback, content, configurations, integrations and platform performance. 
  • Partner with program teams and subject matter experts to ensure tools are accurate, useful, accessible and aligned with ADL’s mission. 
  • Establish processes for testing, quality assurance, issue resolution, updates and responsible governance. 

Experimental AI Innovation and Prototyping 

  • Lead an experimental portfolio of AI prototypes and proofs of concept that advance ADL’s mission and organizational effectiveness. 
  • Explore emerging capabilities including agentic AI and automation, multi-agent systems, computer-use agents, AI-assisted software development, multimodal applications, and more. 
  • Rapidly design, build and test internal- and external-facing tools, assessing feasibility, risk, user value and potential for scale. 
  • Track and communicate results, lessons learned and recommendations for next steps. 
  • Stay on top of the latest AI developments to push the thinking of how new capabilities might be harnessed to support ADL’s mission 

Functional Partnership and Internal AI Solutions 

  • Partner with teams across ADL to develop, maintain and improve AI tools to support business needs 
  • Translate needs and user feedback into clear product requirements, improvements and new capabilities, working quickly and nimbly to implement it  
  • Deeply understand existing ADL AI platforms, including Cassidy AI and Claude 
  • Support teams in refining prompts, knowledge sources, tool actions and other elements of AI-powered applications. 

Staff Consultation and Support 

  • Provide consultation and hands-on support to staff pursuing advanced or custom AI solutions. 
  • Advise on platforms, solution design, prompts, workflows, knowledge sources, integrations, testing and deployment.

Qualifications

Skills: 

  • Demonstrated experience building, deploying, managing or improving AI-powered applications, agents, automations or related digital products. 
  • Experience serving as a product owner or functional lead for technology solutions, including gathering requirements, prioritizing enhancements, managing stakeholders and measuring performance. 
  • Hands-on experience with: 
    • APIs and frameworks for LLM integration 
    • AI agents and assistants, including prompt engineering, tool use, workflows and guardrails 
    • Retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge bases and content or data integrations 
    • No-code and low-code platforms for developing applications and automating business processes 
    • Programming languages such as Python and/or JavaScript 
  • Experience managing production tools, including troubleshooting, testing, quality assurance, release management and ongoing maintenance. 
  • Ability to rapidly prototype and evaluate new technologies, platforms and development approaches. 
  • Basic understanding of software development and DevOps concepts, including Git, version control and CI/CD practices. 
  • Experience working with Salesforce or comparable enterprise platforms preferred. 
  • Strong project management, documentation and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and external vendors.

Work Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate has significant demonstrable experience in AI solutions, product management, software development, data, business process improvement, technology strategy or a related field. 
  • Experience managing production AI tools and developing prototypes that progressed to scaled adoption is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience working in a mission-driven, nonprofit, education, advocacy or public-service environment is a plus. 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.  

Work Environment:  

  • ADL is a hybrid environment, this role will require 3 days in person.  

Compensation:  

  • This position has a salary range of $135,000 to $155,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in (New York, NY).
