Company Overview

Deepgram is the leading platform underpinning the emerging trillion-dollar Voice AI economy, providing real-time APIs for speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS), and building production-grade voice agents at scale. More than 200,000 developers and 1,300+ organizations build voice offerings that are ‘Powered by Deepgram’, including Twilio, Cloudflare, Sierra, Decagon, Vapi, Daily, Cresta, Granola, and Jack in the Box. Deepgram’s voice-native foundation models are accessed through cloud APIs or as self-hosted and on-premises software, with unmatched accuracy, low latency, and cost efficiency. Backed by a recent Series C led by leading global investors and strategic partners, Deepgram has processed over 50,000 years of audio and transcribed more than 1 trillion words. There is no organization in the world that understands voice better than Deepgram.

Company Operating Rhythm

At Deepgram, we expect an AI-first mindset—AI use and comfort aren’t optional, they’re core to how we operate, innovate, and measure performance.

Every team member who works at Deepgram is expected to actively use and experiment with advanced AI tools, and even build your own into your everyday work. We measure how effectively AI is applied to deliver results, and consistent, creative use of the latest AI capabilities is key to success here. Candidates should be comfortable adopting new models and modes quickly, integrating AI into their workflows, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what these technologies can do.

Additionally, we move at the pace of AI. Change is rapid, and you can expect your day-to-day work to evolve just as quickly. This may not be the right role if you’re not excited to experiment, adapt, think on your feet, and learn constantly, or if you’re seeking something highly prescriptive with a traditional 9-to-5.

About the Role

Deepgram is hiring a Director of Brand Strategy & Narrative to own what we say and how we say it. You will define the voice of voice, shaping Deepgram’s brand strategy, narrative, and verbal identity across company positioning, product naming, copy, executive communications, and the arguments we make onstage and in public.

This role requires both strategic leadership and exceptional writing craft. You’ll define the argument for why voice is becoming the preferred interface, establish Deepgram’s role in a voice-first future, and turn that strategy into language people remember and repeat. At the same time, you’ll stay close to the work—writing keynotes, launch narratives, hero pages, manifestos, and other high-impact brand moments yourself.

Reporting to the Head of Brand & Awareness, you’ll lead and develop writing talent while partnering closely with Deepgram’s Design Director and broader creative team in an integrated studio model. You’ll help build the verbal function as Deepgram scales, raising the standard of the work while creating the systems, guidance, and team needed to deliver it consistently.

This is a remote-first role within a fast-moving, category-defining company. Success requires comfort with ambiguity, rapid change, and the pace of AI—as well as the judgment to know when to move quickly and when the work needs to be pushed further.

What You’ll Own
  • Brand strategy and narrative — defining and evolving the argument for why voice is becoming the preferred interface, Deepgram’s role in a voice-first future, and why it matters now.

  • Company and product positioning — building a cohesive positioning strategy that connects the company story to individual products so every expression of the brand strengthens the whole.

  • Category-defining language — translating Deepgram’s technical differentiation and category leadership into clear, memorable language people repeat when we’re not in the room.

  • Brand architecture — defining how the portfolio is organized, what constitutes a platform, product, or feature, and how each offering relates to the others.

  • Naming — leading naming initiatives end to end, from strategy and generation through evaluation, stakeholder alignment, and legal clearance.

  • Verbal identity — establishing Deepgram’s voice, tone, lexicon, and language principles, then building practical guidelines that make the system usable across the company.

  • High-impact writing — personally writing and shaping the work that matters most, including manifestos, launch narratives, hero pages, keynotes, and other flagship brand moments.

  • Executive narratives — partnering closely with founders and senior leaders to shape the arguments Deepgram makes in public and how those ideas are communicated.

  • Thought leadership and content strategy — defining what Deepgram publishes, where it appears, who it serves, and how it advances the company narrative. The work should earn attention through the strength of the thinking, not the volume of output.

  • Writing team leadership — building, mentoring, and growing a high-performing team of writers. You set priorities, give direct feedback, develop talent, and hold the standard for the team’s output.

  • Creative quality — leading copy reviews that strengthen the work and raise the level of craft across internal teams, agencies, freelancers, and contract writers.

  • Cross-functional partnership — working closely with design, web, product, demand generation, developer relations, communications, legal, and other teams to bring the narrative to life consistently.

  • AI-native execution — actively using AI tools in your own writing and strategy work while pushing the team to explore new ways AI can improve creative development, quality, and speed.

What We’re Looking For
  • 10+ years of experience across writing, narrative development, and brand strategy, including at least four years leading people and creative work

  • Exceptional writing ability across formats, from strategic keynotes and manifestos to headlines, product copy, and button labels

  • A portfolio demonstrating brand narrative, positioning, naming, and brand architecture work that shipped

  • Direct experience building portfolio and naming systems, not simply contributing to them

  • A strong creative leader who gets energy from developing writers and raising the quality of a team’s work while remaining an exceptional individual craftsperson

  • Technical fluency and genuine curiosity—you can work with engineers, understand what they built and why it matters, and translate that complexity into something people want to read

  • Experience working in an in-house or agency studio model where writers and designers develop ideas together at speed

  • Executive presence and experience shaping what founders and senior leaders say—and how they say it

  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to earn support for an idea from writers, engineers, marketers, and executives

  • Excellent creative judgment, with the taste and conviction to articulate why an idea or piece of work is or isn’t working

  • Comfort operating through ambiguity and rapid change in a fast-moving company undergoing significant brand evolution

  • Active use of AI in writing, research, ideation, or creative development—not just interest in what it could eventually do

It Would Be Nice If You Had
  • Experience branding technical, developer-focused, or AI products and making complex technology feel clear and human

  • Experience leading external brand or creative agencies through naming, positioning, or narrative engagements

  • A background in speechwriting, editorial, journalism, or another discipline grounded in rigorous storytelling
