The Outcomes Research team at Tempus partners with leading life science organizations to deliver best-in-class real-world data, analytics, and methodological expertise. We are seeking a highly motivated Director of Business Development to expand our external partnerships, drive commercial growth of Tempus’ RWE solutions, and help shape the strategic direction of our Outcomes Research offering.
ResponsibilitiesCommercial Strategy & Business GrowthLead business development efforts for the Outcomes Research team, identifying, cultivating, and securing partnerships with Pharma, biotech, and other life science organizations.
Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for Tempus’s real-world data and analytic solutions, aligning offerings to client needs across Medical Affairs, HEOR, Epidemiology, Commercial and RWE teams.
Partner closely with clients to understand scientific, clinical, and commercial objectives; translate those needs into high-value Tempus RWE study proposals and data solutions.
Collaborate with scientific leads to scope protocols, methodological approaches, and analytic deliverables, ensuring proposals meet scientific and operational feasibility.
Present Tempus capabilities, RWE insights, and strategic recommendations to Pharma epidemiologists, HEOR leaders, and medical liaisons through formal presentations and working sessions.
Internal Collaboration & Product Development
Work closely with Tempus Key Account Directors to identify opportunities and build proposals for life science customers.
Work cross-functionally with Outcomes Research, Data Product, Clinical Abstraction, and Data Science teams to shape new data assets, analytical features, and offerings based on market demand.
Advocate for customer needs in internal roadmap discussions; provide market intelligence on trends in RWE, oncology, and evidence generation.
Support forecasting, reporting, and other business operations processes to maintain visibility into performance and pipeline.
Market & Scientific Expertise
Stay current on methodological advancements in real-world evidence, oncology guidelines, and ongoing clinical trials to ensure alignment of Tempus solutions with market expectations.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of diverse real-world data sources (claims, EHR, registry), their advantages/limitations, and how they are used in retrospective observational research and clinical development.
5+ years of business development, account management, consulting, or partnership experience in life sciences, real-world evidence, HEOR, medical affairs, or related fields.
Demonstrated ability to sell or position data-driven solutions, RWE offerings, or analytics-based services to Pharma and biotech partners.
Proven track record of achieving revenue targets, building long-term client relationships, and managing complex enterprise accounts.
Familiarity with oncology research, oncology clinical trials, and use of RWE in evidence generation.
Experience partnering with scientific teams to shape study designs, protocols, or analytics that meet client needs.
Understanding of RWE endpoints, oncology disease landscapes, and retrospective study methodologies.
Experience working with hematologic malignancy datasets or disease-specific outcomes.
Ability to present scientific or technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
High attention to detail and commitment to delivering exceptional client experiences.

Remote: $150,000-$200,000
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from California and may vary for other locations (Colorado, Illinois, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
