The Director of Customer, Market & Competitive Intelligence is a senior strategic leader responsible for building and operationalizing a holistic external‑insights function. This role provides the organization with a clear, forward‑looking understanding of market dynamics, customer priorities, and competitive forces. The director will shape enterprise strategy, guide investment decisions, and ensure leadership has the intelligence needed to anticipate change and act decisively.
This leader will build and manage a small, high‑performing team and partner closely with Product, Strategy, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and the Executive Team.
ResponsibilitiesMarket Intelligence
- Own the company’s global market intelligence strategy, including market sizing, segmentation, growth forecasting, and trend analysis.
- Identify macroeconomic, regulatory, and technological forces that will shape the industry over 3–10 year horizons.
- Develop scenario models and strategic frameworks that inform long‑term planning and portfolio decisions.
- Advise executives on emerging opportunities and risks.
Customer Intelligence
- Build a deep, structured understanding of customers’ industries, technology roadmaps, investment priorities, and growth drivers.
- Lead customer segmentation, opportunity sizing, and whitespace analysis to guide product and commercial strategy.
- Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Product to integrate voice‑of‑customer insights into strategic planning.
- Identify unmet needs and emerging customer behaviors that signal new product or market opportunities.
Competitive Intelligence
- Lead the company’s competitive intelligence program, including monitoring competitor strategies, product evolution, financial performance, and organizational moves.
- Develop forward‑looking assessments of competitor intentions, expansion plans, and potential disruptions.
- Produce executive‑ready competitive briefings, threat analyses, and strategic recommendations.
- Support product and go‑to‑market teams with competitive positioning and battlecards.
Strategic Deliverables
- Annual and quarterly intelligence reports for executive leadership
- Market and customer segmentation frameworks
- Long‑range market and competitive scenario models
- Executive‑level competitive threat assessments
- Insights that directly influence product roadmaps, M&A considerations, and strategic planning cycles
- 10+ years of experience in market intelligence, strategy, consulting, product strategy, or related analytical fields
- Proven ability to influence senior executives and shape strategic decisions
- Strong experience with market modeling, competitive analysis, and customer research
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to distill complexity into clear narratives
- Experience building or leading an insights, strategy, or intelligence function
