About the Role:
Dow Jones is seeking an experienced, data-driven Director of Paid Media to lead our full funnel, multi-channel performance marketing efforts across Social, Search, Display/Programmatic, and App campaigns for Barron's, MarketWatch, and WSJ+. The ideal candidate will be a direct response expert with deep experience managing large budgets, leading high-performing teams, and driving measurable business outcomes.
As Director, you will manage a team of digital growth marketers and oversee all in-house paid media operations dedicated to acquiring Barron's, MarketWatch, and WSJ+ subscribers. Barron's covers U.S. financial information, market developments, and relevant statistics; MarketWatch provides financial information, business news, analysis, and stock market data; WSJ+ is Dow Jones’ bundle offer featuring four premier titles - Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch, and Investors Business Daily (IBD).
You will report to the Vice President, Global Acquisition and Paid Media and work cross-functionally with teams across the marketing organization including, but not limited to, Acquisition, Engagement & Retention, Brand, Audience, and Data Science.
You will work on-site in our midtown Manhattan office 3 days each week.
You will:
Develop and lead the overall Paid Media strategy across Google, Bing, Meta, X, LinkedIn, and programmatic platforms, with a strong focus on customer acquisition and ROI.
Manage a $10M+ annual media budget across platforms and markets to increase audience reach, maximize acquisition volume and deliver on CPO goals.
Manage, mentor, develop, and scale a team of paid media professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and results.
Develop, test, and share performance results with Acquisition and Creative teams to inform direction on creative offers, etc.
Implement measurement strategies to drive incrementality and improve efficiency.
Partner closely with internal teams including Creative, Product, Data Science, Lifecycle Marketing, and Brand Marketing to align media strategy with broader business goals.
Use advanced analytics and testing frameworks to continuously optimize campaigns and inform strategic decisions.
Present Paid Media strategies and performance to key stakeholders and SLT within the Performance Marketing team.
Bring a strong direct response and performance marketing mindset to all initiatives, constantly pushing for greater efficiency and stronger attribution.
Stay ahead of industry trends, platform updates, and emerging technologies to keep our media strategies at the forefront.
You have:
The willingness to work in our midtown Manhattan office 3 days every week
12+ years of paid media experience at agencies or brands (brand-side experience strongly preferred)
Experience managing an annual budget of at least $6M-$10M
Deep channel expertise in Paid Social, Paid Search, Display/DSPs, and App advertising
Strong background in direct response marketing and customer acquisition, ideally with experience supporting consumer subscription-based businesses
In-depth experience with G-suite tech stack (GA4, DV360, CM360, SA360).
Exceptional analytical skills with a proven ability to interpret complex data and translate insights into actionable strategies
Experience managing and developing high-performing teams of direct reports
Highly collaborative with experience building relationships and influencing across cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
Detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
A bachelor's degree in marketing or business administration is preferred
