ABOUT THE ROLE: 

At Resy, we are tackling the toughest challenges in an industry that everyone loves, hospitality. We hold ourselves to the highest standard in delivering elegant technology fueling exceptional experiences for both our restaurant operators and diner alike. As a Director of Engineering (Backend), you will play a crucial role in continuing to drive our best-in-class software. You will be leading and continuing to scale our 10+ backend engineering department. We are seeking a dynamic engineering leader who is just as passionate about building a highly performant team as setting the course for that team’s technical direction. In this role you must be comfortable getting into the depths of the Resy code and architecture in order to lead architecture decisions, uphold strong coding standards, and drive team execution.

WHO YOU ARE: 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience

• 3+ years of experience managing engineering leaders and managers. 

• 5+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer, preferably in a fast-paced startup environment. 

• You take pride in driving a high velocity team with laser focus on strong code quality standards, reliability, and maintainability. 

• You are excited by conducting inclusive architecture design discussions and take a weighted approach when making strategic decisions. 

• You have had a strong track record of hiring and scaling a team to meet the evolving demands of the business. 

• You are comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders outside the Engineering team including Product, Sales, Marketing, and Account Management teams. 

• You have led agile software teams in the past.

• You have strong expertise with the following: 

• Python / Ruby / PHP 

• SQL/MySQL/Postgres/Oracle 

• RDBMS and database design 

• Unit/Functional Testing 

• Linux/UNIX 

• Implementing and building APIs 

BIG PLUS IF YOU HAVE: 

• Python/MySQL Experience 

• SQL Performance tuning 

• Microservice architectures 

• AWS - EC2 / RDS / S3 / SQS 

• Kafka / Celery / Flask / Django / Supervisord / MongoDB 

• Dev-ops experience 

• Jira / Clubhouse.io or other project management tool 

• You enjoy at least one of the following things: shishito peppers, uni, or creme anglaise
