Team Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior/Lead Java Full Stack Engineer with strong expertise in microservices architecture, modern Java Our team is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable enterprise applications that support critical business operations across global markets. As part of TransUnion's technology organization, the team drives innovation through modern cloud-native development practices, ensuring high-quality solutions that enable business growth and operational excellence.This role will play a key part in establishing and growing a new engineering team in Costa Rica, while collaborating closely with stakeholders and engineering teams across the United States and India to deliver impactful technology solutions. This is a remote position which may require occasional in-person attendance at work-related events at the discretion of management.
Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
- Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and design of enterprise applications and services.
- Lead the development of scalable, cloud-based solutions leveraging modern software engineering practices.
- Design and implement high-performance microservices and APIs that support critical business capabilities.
- Provide technical leadership and hands-on guidance to engineers across the full software development lifecycle.
- Lead and manage a team of engineers, including DevOps Engineers and Full Stack/Cloud Developers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, security, reliability, and system performance through best practices and governance.
- Collaborate with global engineering, platform, and business teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Drive end-to-end ownership of projects from technical design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement, including the adoption of AI-enabled development tools, automation, and modern Agile practices.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including the design and development of enterprise-grade applications.
- 5+ years of experience in technical leadership, team leadership, and/or people management roles with direct reports.
- Strong expertise in application architecture, distributed systems, microservices, and service-oriented architectures (SOA).
- Proven experience delivering solutions within cloud-based development environments and large-scale enterprise ecosystems.
- Experience managing and mentoring engineering teams while driving successful delivery of complex technical initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Java and modern Java frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, or similar) for enterprise application development.
- Strong experience designing and implementing Microservices Architectures and RESTful APIs.
- Hands-on experience with Vue.js and modern front-end development technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (Amazon Web Services), Azure (Microsoft Azure), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong understanding of CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern software delivery methodologies.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of software security, application performance optimization, and engineering best practices.
- Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams across multiple geographic regions.
- Familiarity with development tools such as Visual Studio Code (VS Code) and modern engineering toolchains.
- Experience working in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or large-scale enterprise technology environments.
- Knowledge of DevOps automation, infrastructure-as-code, and advanced deployment strategies.
- Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools and coding assistants to improve productivity, quality, and delivery efficiency.
- Exposure to both Java and .NET technology stacks within complex enterprise environments.
