Others handle simple interactions. Front handles the coordination and context behind complex B2B customer relationships. Over 9,000 companies, including Uber Freight, Navan, and Stripe, rely on Front because it's the only one that can run the operational layer that makes customer-facing work actually succeed.

Front has received numerous Great Place to Work accolades, including Built In's 100 Best Midsize Places to Work in SF 2025, Top Places to Work by USA Today 2025, Y Combinator's list of Top Companies in 2023, #4 on Fortune’s Best Workplaces in the Bay Area™ ,Inc. Magazine's 2022 Best Workplaces list, and Forbes Best Startup Employers 2022 List.

The Core Product Experience (CPX) team owns and elevates the heart of the Front application — the inbox and adjacent surfaces where frontline users triage and route conversations, collaborate with teammates, and craft high-quality replies. CPX's mission is to ensure that frontline and admin users can work more efficiently, with higher quality, and a happier day-to-day experience. The team's scope is broad, spanning everything from core inbox functionality (inboxes, messages, composer) to newer surfaces like ticketing mode, and the team partners closely with Client Platform, AI, and other pods across Engineering. As Front continues to grow and invest in AI-powered experiences, CPX is at the center of the product strategy.

About the Role

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team on CPX, based in our San Francisco office (hybrid). You'll manage a team of talented engineers delivering on an ambitious and expanding roadmap, lean into technical design and implementation decisions, and obsess about quality, performance, and the end-user experience. This is a highly collaborative role — you'll partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and other engineering teams across SF and globally.

What will you be doing?

  • Drive execution on a high-impact roadmap. Work with your team to turn product specs into features that directly shape how thousands of companies communicate with their customers every day.

  • Lead and grow a strong engineering team. Coach and develop engineers at various levels, attract and hire top talent, and foster a culture of ownership, learning, and high standards.

  • Partner cross-functionally. Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers and Data Analysts to define what to build and why. Represent your team's priorities and tradeoffs in planning and strategy discussions.

  • Own technical quality. Guide the team through architectural decisions, champion code quality and performance, and ensure the team is building for reliability and scale in a complex, real-time, multi-platform application.

  • Contribute to engineering leadership. As a member of Front's engineering management team, help shape engineering-wide initiatives, processes, and culture.

  • Embrace AI as a force multiplier to enhance engineering workflows

  • Support the integration of AI-powered features into the core product experience, partnering with the AI team

What makes this role exciting?

  • You'll build the product that customers live in. 95% of all Front interactions are within the CPX surface area. Front users spend 4 hours a day in the inbox — CPX is the team that makes that experience exceptional. Your work directly drives Front's differentiation and stickiness.

  • Broad scope, real impact. CPX manages a wide surface area, so you'll tackle a diverse set of technical and product challenges — from real-time messaging to rich text composition to multi-platform experiences (Web, Desktop via Electron, Mobile via React Native).

  • Shape the future of customer communication. Front is investing heavily in AI and new product experiences. CPX is at the center of these strategic bets, and you'll help define how they come to life.

  • Grow as a leader. You'll have the opportunity to develop engineers, mentor future engineering leaders, and contribute to a collaborative, low-ego engineering culture rooted in Front's core values.

What skills and experience do you need?

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience, including recruiting, mentoring, and retaining high-performing engineers.

  • A strong track record of leading teams that deliver complex, ambiguous projects with high quality and on time

  • Clear, structured thinking and excellent communication skills — you can articulate tradeoffs, align stakeholders, and make pragmatic decisions.

  • Experience with real-time, high-performance, or multi-product platforms

Should Have:

  • A deep product mindset — you care about making a complex application feel simple and intuitive for the end user

  • Technical fluency in modern web technologies (e.g., TypeScript, React, Node.js) and the ability to engage meaningfully in architectural and implementation discussions

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Electron, React Native, or rich text editors

  • Experience at a fast-growing B2B SaaS company

  • Experience building products in the customer support or customer communication space

  • Strong design sense and a passion for user experience
