Engineering Team Manager, API & Service Frameworks

Squarespace is looking for an Engineering Team Manager (Team Lead) to lead the API and Service Frameworks team within the Building Blocks Platform Engineering group. This team owns critical infrastructure—including the public API gateway, Java-based service framework, and external developer portal—that supports both internal development and external integrations. In this high-impact role, you'll guide technical strategy, grow and mentor engineers (with having direct reports!), and collaborate with stakeholders to shape core systems used across the company.

You will report to the Engineering Manager of the Backend Platform team in our NYC office. This is a hybrid opportunity with three days in the office per week.

• Lead and grow a team of strong engineers centered on empathy – not only do we support internal customers, but we mentor each other, review each other's code thoughtfully, and collaborate on complex problems.
• Engage with cross-functional partners to shape the future of resilient, performant, and secure services at Squarespace.
• Partner with other leaders to influence larger product, architectural, and organizational choices.
• Champion development best practices across Squarespace

• Are passionate about evaluating new technologies, setting the standards across a broad set of teams, and eliminating boilerplate.
• Have strong opinions about software development best practices and security by default.
• Are bothered by using outdated or EOL technology, and enjoy ensuring teams are always on a supported, stable versions.
• Believe that internal platform teams should have a product mindset toward our internal customers - we're building things to help product engineers go to market faster, not just because something is cool.
• Collaborate well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Have experience in service-oriented architecture design and best practices.

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience in Java and Spring.
• 2+ years in a team lead, tech lead, or engineering management role.
• Experience building and maintaining frameworks, platforms, or developer tooling at scale.
• Strong understanding of API architecture, lifecycle management, and developer experience.

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
