Performs Urdu-English linguistic quality assurance, arbitration, glossary and translation-memory updates, client feedback implementation, and cultural consultation. Manages language quality processes, documentation, root-cause analyses, quality improvement plans, stakeholder communication, and mentoring. The role requires native or near-native Pakistani Urdu proficiency, excellent US English, localization expertise, and flexibility across content types, including music, video, and sensitive material.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Language Expert – Urdu (Pakistan) to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong linguistic background, expertise in the Urdu-Pakistan language, and the ability to lead projects with a focus on quality and efficiency. The Language expert will oversee linguistic tasks, manage quality assurance, and provide mentorship to linguists while ensuring the delivery of high-quality language services. The applicant should be native Pakistani National who understands the Language in-depth, knows the cultural nuances of the language and have excellent command over English-US, both verbal and written.
Responsibility
- Perform LQA reviews, adhering to quality guidelines and production timelines.
- Handle arbitrations and drive linguistic consensus for optimal results.
- Perform glossary and TM updates within Smartling environment, following the guidelines provided by the quality team.
- Handle Client review (from non-linguists) feedback exchange and implementation.
- Process linguistic feedback from QA testing and implement changes as needed.
- Provide linguistic and cultural consultation as requested by the client.
- Liaise with Language Specialist and translation teams (via emails & meetings) to share constructive feedback and drive overall language quality improvement.
- Liaise with client stakeholders (via emails & meetings) to discuss linguistic matters and offer consultation in a clear & well-substantiated manner.
- Maintain reference materials, training documentation and meeting notes.
- Answer linguistic queries adhering to outlined query management processes.
- Proactively monitor language quality performance via LQA report, take action to address issues in a timely manner, and flag quality risks to the quality team.
- Work on internal and external RCAs and QIPs, as instructed by the quality team.
- Proactively assess and suggest asset improvements, considering their impact on end users as well as the associated effort (time & cost).
- Critically prioritize and track QM tasks based on urgency, impact and client needs, adhering to relevant guidelines and designated time allocation.

Education, Skills and Experience
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Language Arts, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in translation, localization, or linguistic services.
At least 2 years of experience as a Language Lead or in a Senior Linguist position.
Language Skills: Native or near-native proficiency in Urdu-Pakistan, with excellent command of English (additional language proficiency is a plus).
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with translation and localization tools (e.g., CAT tools, TMS systems).
Strong knowledge of linguistic quality assurance processes.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in the localization/translation industry for global Music Service provider.
Knowledge of Pakistani cultural and regional linguistic nuances.
Certification in translation or localization tools is an advantage.
Must: The candidate must be flexible to work on any type of content (Including sensitive content), music, video, genre, domain etc.
