What is an Enterprise Architect?
The EA partners with delivery teams, project leaders, and business stakeholders to design technology solutions that are practical, scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise strategy. A key part of this role is collaborating closely with the Application, Infrastructure, Security, and Data teams, to support the creation of enterprise standards and reusable patterns. This role will actively contribute to high-impact transformation initiatives while building trusted relationships and cultivating a culture of architectural thinking across the organization. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to foster the development and growth of architecture practices within the Application, Infrastructure, and Data domains. This position works across IT and business teams to connect strategy with execution, advance capability-driven planning, and strengthen alignment between technology investments and business outcomes.
What does an Enterprise Architect do?
Contributes to business capability modeling, technology roadmaps, and reference architectures; document standards, design decisions, and reusable patterns
Engages actively with Security, Application, Infrastructure, and Data teams to co-develop standards and ensure solutions are aligned to enterprise standards and guardrails
Partners with Business Relationship Managers, GRC, and PMO teams to ensure architecture considerations are factored early in the demand pipeline
Prepares and presents materials for the Architecture Review Board (ARB), capture decisions, and track adherence to principles and guardrails
Provides solution evaluation support, surface risks, redundancies, or integration gaps, and ensure designs align to target architecture
Assists in shaping enterprise data models, integration approaches, and analytics enablement in partnership with the Data Architecture practice
Research and communicates the potential value of new tools and approaches tailored to business needs and industry trends.
Creates executive-ready visuals, playbooks, and knowledge artifacts to articulate architecture value
Contributes to and serves on Design Authorities for high priority initiatives/solutions to ensure technical, functional, and strategic alignment
Provides storm/emergency response support
What does it take to be an Enterprise Architect?
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field and 3+ years of relevant IT, architecture, or closely related experience. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree in the aforementioned fields and 5+ years of relevant IT, architecture, or closely related experience
IT experience in areas such as solution design, data management, or systems engineering with contributions to solution/enterprise architecture deliverables
Exposure to technical architecture domains (data, application, infrastructure, or security)
Familiarity with enterprise architecture concepts such as capability mapping, road mapping, and governance
Effective communication, storytelling, and facilitation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to executive, business, and technical audiences
Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across functions
Demonstrated ability to analyze business problems and align technology solutions
Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
5+ years of IT experience in areas such as solution design, data management, or systems engineering with 1-3 years contributing to solution/enterprise architecture deliverables
Experience in utilities, energy, or other regulated industries
Working knowledge of EA frameworks (TOGAF, COBIT) and Agile practices (preferably SAFe)
Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira, or similar workflow/portfolio tools
Experience supporting Architecture Review Boards or similar governance forums
Certifications such as AWS/Azure Architecture Associate, Certified Business Architect (CBA), or security-focused architecture credentials
This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within a job series. The title and level are commensurate with experience. Pay range: $101,000 - $196,100
