The Research Analyst for the tech & communications super sector is a strategic professional comfortable working at the frontier of the technology industry to understand and communicate the future of tech and its impact on industries, companies, and economies. This role offers a unique opportunity at the intersection of technology, venture capital, and public markets.  The technology and communications super sector team will establish thought leadership through written research, multimedia, and events within and outside the firm on the impact that technology is having across all companies, industries and economies.  The role requires deep intellectual curiosity, the ability to understand complex technologies and industries, and the presence to contribute to a fast-paced environment.  Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and external contacts. The Vice President level analyst will regularly assume informal/formal leadership within the team as well as helping to train new associates on the team.
Responsibilities:

  • The Vice President-level Analyst will report directly to the global lead for the technology and communications super sector that includes software, semiconductors, hardware, and internet. 
  • Responsibilities include: writing in depth thematic research reports, conducting macroeconomic analysis, building industry models, and communicating the firm’s views to institutional investors, corporate management teams, and venture capitalists. 
  • Self-starter; used to working in a team environment and who has the ambition to progress his/her career within equity research
  • Conduct proprietary analysis, develop networks, and synthesize data
  • Attend industry conferences and establish industry contacts
  • Track industry and relevant company events
  • Develop industry and financial models working with the senior associates on the team
  • Establish yourself as an expert in multiple areas of technology relevance
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
     

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years relevant experience
  • Distill research into an investable thesis and write report/note
  • Market ideas to internal constituents and clients via phone calls and meetings
  • Help facilitate direct corporate access for investors
  • Provide independent (regulatory controlled) perspectives
  • Secure and maintain applicable licenses.
     

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
