Job Description:Experience Design Lead, Brand Marketing

Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal are seeking a strategic and innovative Experience Design Lead to join our Brand Marketing team. This role focuses on enhancing user experience (UX), shaping customer journeys, and maintaining brand integrity across marketing touchpoints.

You’ll bridge strategy and execution, ensuring consistent, audience-first design across platforms and campaigns. Leading a small team with the Brand team, you’ll collaborate closely with Marketing, Subscription Strategy, Acquisition, Events, Design & Research, and Product to build cohesive, high-impact customer experiences across WSJ, WSJ+, and other Dow Jones brands.

This hands-on leadership role reports to the Brand Creative Director and combines UX & UI design expertise with brand stewardship. You’ll drive projects across teams, guide designers and partners, and ensure brand fidelity while meeting business goals.

Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, audience-centric design solutions that drive engagement, loyalty, and conversion.

This is not a product design role. Instead, it’s a brand-led opportunity for a UX design generalist within a brand marketing context—connecting the dots across campaigns, platforms, and internal silos to build customer journeys that are both strategically sound and beautifully executed. The Experience Design Lead will play a crucial role in shaping the way our customers interact with our brands and surfaces.

Responsibilities & Activities
  • Lead UX / UI design and brand experience initiatives from within the Marketing org, partnering  with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Synthesize complex business goals into clear, actionable design strategies that result in refined user experiences and interfaces.
  • Drive customer journey mapping and experience strategy across acquisition, engagement, and retention touchpoints for WSJ, WSJ+, and Dow Jones brands.
  • Collaborate and align with Subscription Strategy, Acquisition and Events teams to translate business goals into UX objectives and audience-centric experiences, and define design briefs.
  • Understand and define project architecture from vision to execution, draft project roadmaps to build coalition and guide progress.
  • Deliver hands-on design: wireframes, user flows, UI, and visual assets—ensuring brand consistency and design excellence.
  • Incorporate AI tools to enhance efficiency and speed, without compromising quality
  • With your team, oversee the brand experience across touchpoints — connecting the dots, identifying gaps, and implementing cross functional design solutions.
  • Bridge Brand and Design & Research teams to integrate brand design standards and visual identities into UX design systems, working toward building a single source universal design standards for digital surfaces .
  • Guide and design UI to meet standards for brand consistency and visual design excellence.
  • Advocate for design-forward marketing UX foundations, improve design and user experience for existing websites and platforms, and innovate new solutions and UI patterns following best practices.
  • Refine existing customer journeys with a strategic, content-focused, design-forward, audience-first approach.
  • Ensure brand consistency, design and typographic excellence across all marketing efforts and customer journeys.
  • Guide and mentor a small team of designers, providing leadership across UX and UI design.
  • Review and provide directional feedback  for the design and partner teams’ work,  ensuring quality and standards and adherence to project and business objectives.
  • Manage designers and other resources to deliver projects on tight deadlines.
  • Educate stakeholders and colleagues to build understanding of UX best practices.
  • Share knowledge and inspire the team with knowledge of design and UX trends, and deep interest in the design landscape.

Qualifications & Criteria
  • 10+ years of experience in UX and brand design.
  • 4+ years in a lead or management role, directing cross functional teams on complex projects from concept through execution.
  • Strong process orientation and systems thinking—able to balance long-term brand vision with near-term tactical execution.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing design talent, especially in upskilling visual designers into well-rounded UI designers with strong UX foundations.
  • Strong understanding of how brand, UX, and marketing intersect to shape customer experience.
  • Proven ability to lead both strategic planning and design conversations and execute UX/UI design hands-on.
  • Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design ability across brand-led initiatives with a focus on customer journey.
  • Deep knowledge of UX best practices, content strategy and hierarchy, and strategic thinking.
  • Hands-on experience with visual identity, wireframes, user flows, and prototyping.
  • Experience maintaining or evolving design systems and brand standards.
  • Refined visual and typographic sensibility with a dedication to craft, UI, and design excellence.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills across concurrent initiatives in a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management across marketing, brand, UX, and product teams — with the ability to effectively present to and influence stakeholders.
  • Integration of AI tools in current workflows.
  • Expertise in design tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • BA/BS in Design, UX, HCI, or related field preferred.
