Position Summary

The Fabric Manager oversees the research, sourcing, and development of materials from concept to production, serving as a liaison between designers, product developers, vendors, and production teams to ensure design, quality, cost, and timeline requirements are met. They maintain sample libraries, track raw material orders and fabric development through the WIP, coordinate with mills and vendors, approve lab dips for color accuracy, and support the production team to help ensure all technical specifications and testing protocols are fulfilled for timely delivery to production. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, proactive problem-solver with experience working in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Fabric Development & Sourcing: Research and source new and running fabrics, coordinating seasonal development and managing lab dip requests.
  • Supplier Communication: Act as the primary contact for fabric mills, negotiating, following up on submissions, and tracking production order approvals.
  • Library Management: Maintain physical and digital fabric libraries, ensuring accurate inventory, labeling, and archiving of headers, cuttings, and binders.
  • System Maintenance: Use Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, Excel, and/or other similar systems to track development status and maintain accurate article data.
  • Fabric Tracking & Analytics: Maintain and analyze fabric development data through WIP tracking tools (Excel, Airtable, or similar), providing clear and structured visibility to Design and Production teams. Organize fabric data by mill/vendor, fabric categories, composition, and end use, ensuring information is consistently updated and easily accessible. Identify imbalances or gaps in fabric development and leverage prior season bulk and development data to support more efficient fabric planning and decision-making.
  • Collaboration: Work with design and production teams to ensure fabric choices meet brand aesthetic, performance, and cost guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in Textile Design, Fashion Design, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years’ experience in fashion production, raw materials, or fabric R&D.
  • Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and experience with PLM systems.
  • Knowledge: Technical understanding of fabric construction, testing protocols, and sustainable material attributes.
  • Attention to Detail & Organization: Highly detail-oriented with a strong ability to organize and structure information. Comfortable working with large sets of fabric and development data, with a natural inclination toward maintaining accuracy, clarity, and consistency.

Salary:

The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 annually.
