The Financial Markets Reporter will cover market trends and stocks, produce articles, and utilize data for compelling storytelling, primarily focusing on informing investors.
The Role:
Morningstar seeks an enterprising financial journalist for the position of markets reporter on our New York-based team.
Morningstar's core mission is to help investors meet their financial goals, so we approach reporting on the markets through that lens. You won't find us chasing small moves in stocks, topped by dramatic headlines like "Dow Surges 900 Points." Instead, you will put the day-to-day noise of the markets in context while informing investors on the news and trends critical to making smart investment decisions across their portfolios.
We are looking for a reporter who can combine a lively, engaging writing style with a proven ability to make complex markets subjects accessible. Our wide audience ranges from advisors, portfolio managers and sophisticated DIY investors to readers whose investing experience may only be a target-date fund in their 401(k). The successful candidate enjoys the energy of the markets, the challenge of puzzling out the truth behind price swings and conveying this knowledge clearly and authoritatively to readers. We're a collaborative group, and the successful candidate will be one that will thrive in an environment of sharing ideas and supporting the team effort.
In this role, you will cover trends across the financial markets, with an emphasis on stocks. A portion of the coverage entails connecting macro trends with moves in the overall stock market and important sectors, helping investors understand what is driving portfolio returns. In addition, you will tap into Morningstar's research and data to explain and contextualize moves in notable individual stocks across the market. Responsibilities also include reporting on IPOs in collaboration with our colleagues at PitchBook who specialize in private markets.
Your stories combining interviews, analyst research and compelling data will differentiate our coverage from other news outlets. Written articles will be the primary deliverable, but you'll also have opportunities to produce short-form videos, podcasts, and other multimedia.
The Responsibilities:
The Requirements:
