Founding iOS Engineer

As a founding iOS engineer at Overtone, you'll build the consumer app at the center of a new kind of dating service, one built around real-time voice, AI-driven insight, and trust. You'll own iOS at Overtone end to end: architecture, craft, performance, and direction. You'll partner closely with product, design, and engineering to ship a voice-first app that feels native, intentional, and alive.

What You’ll Do

• Build and own the Overtone iOS app, the surface where every dater experiences our voice-first, AI-driven product, on a team that holds craft to an extremely high bar.

• Partner closely with product, design, and engineering to ship complex, voice-led experiences that feel effortless to use.

• Set the culture for iOS engineering at Overtone: architecture, build and release discipline, code quality, and the playbook for moving from prototype to production.

• Shape mobile strategy as we scale the team, the platform, and the company.

Who You Are

• Strong intuition and deeply considered opinions about iOS app design and aesthetics. You've worked on design-forward apps that people noticed.

• Proven technical leader who has shipped iOS apps or major features to production multiple times, including navigating App Store review and release pipelines.

• Passionate about UI, specifically the engineering involved in building lightning-fast, ergonomic, and innovative interfaces on iOS.

• Expert at eliminating latency, particularly across real-time, voice, and AI-driven interactions. Nothing (not the network, not the architecture, not the limitations of the SDK) gets in the way of you finding those extra milliseconds.

• Tuned in to the Apple release cycle and modern iOS UI/UX patterns, always thinking about how the newest platform features unlock better product experiences.

• Deep hands-on experience across the full iOS lifecycle: architecture, build trains, test strategy, TestFlight, push notifications, and modern UI architecture patterns.

• High judgment on performance, security, and reliability in consumer products where users share deeply personal information.

• 6+ years of experience building beautiful and delightful iOS application

• 3+ years of experience owning the end-to-end of a production iOS app, from architect, to release manager, to design-engineer

Nice to have:

• Real-time communications: WebRTC, WebSockets, audio codecs, streaming audio protocols.

• LLM and AI integration: experience bringing AI consumer features to life on the client.

• Complex UI: experience building interfaces that required stepping off the SDK's golden path.

• On-device ML, Metal, or other graphics/shader work.

• Open-source contributions to iOS projects, or a strong personal portfolio of iOS work.

• Early-stage startup experience, or background in a dating or social product.

Salary of $200k to $250k.
