Founding Designer

We’re a small, highly technical team (five engineers) in NYC building products at the intersection of AI and consumer. Our mission is to harness the “superpower” of generative AI to create products that genuinely improve people’s lives—helping them learn, connect, and master information in ways that weren’t possible before. We care deeply about product design and believe that how you present information and interact with AI is every bit as crucial as the AI technology itself.

• Overview: An "agentic reader" for long-form content (books, essays, blog posts, podcasts) that uses LLMs to compress, expand, and recontextualize information on demand.
• Key Challenges:
  • Crafting intuitive navigation for hierarchical summaries (from "just the basics" to deep dives).
  • Ensuring users know where they are in a document and can seamlessly explore deeper levels of detail.
  • Adapting content for different expertise levels, time constraints, and reading goals, all within a mobile-first design.
  • Providing interactive features that help users retain and master the content.

This product demonstrates our broader philosophy: Generative AI can give consumers superpowers to navigate complex information and learn from it—but only if the user experience is thoughtfully designed to unlock these AI capabilities in a natural, intuitive way.

• New Interaction Paradigms: We’re pushing beyond simple text boxes and chatbots. We want to invent entirely new UX patterns suited for AI agents—how to build trust, how to navigate large knowledge graphs, how to scale or shrink content on the fly, and how to create user-centric experiences around powerful but invisible tech.
• Complex Data, Simple UX: We need design that makes complex information feel approachable, clear, and actionable.
• Mobile-First Experiences: We believe most users will engage with these AI products via their phones, so the design must be polished, responsive, and delightful on mobile.

As our first full-time designer, you will:

1. Own All Things Design
   • Define the end-to-end user experience for products we’ll be iterating on.
   • Set the design vision, style guide, and interaction patterns.
   • Collaborate closely with the founders on product strategy and roadmap.
2. Shape New AI Interaction Models
   • Brainstorm innovative ways to present AI-generated content (e.g., hierarchical summaries, trust-building UI around AI-synthesized content, etc.).
   • Explore and prototype new interface patterns that best leverage LLM superpowers—beyond standard chat or Q&A.
3. Collaborate with a Technical Team
   • Partner with our engineers early and often. We move fast and iterate constantly.
   • Use modern tools (Figma, AI-assisted prototyping environments like V0, Cursor, etc.) to rapidly test and refine design ideas.
   • Help integrate user feedback and insights into each iteration.
4. Develop a User-Centric, Product-Focused Design Culture
   • Champion empathy for the user—ensuring we solve real problems in a delightful way.
   • Drive user testing, research, and validation processes.
   • Balance high-level product thinking with pixel-perfect execution.
5. Help Build the Company
   • As a founding team member, you’ll shape our early culture, help us hire and mentor future designers, and set high standards for our design practice.
   • Contribute to big-picture thinking on our product pipeline and the evolution of AI-driven experiences.

• Strong Visual & Interaction Design Skills: You have a high bar for aesthetics, typography, and UI details.
• Product Sense & User Empathy: You care deeply about solving real user problems and have a track record of designing intuitive products that delight.
• Technical Fluency: You’re comfortable using (or excited to learn) AI-assisted prototyping tools, and you thrive in close collaboration with engineers.
• Iterative & Fast-Moving: You love rapid prototyping, user testing, and improving designs on the fly.
• Passion for AI & Innovation: You’re intrigued by large language models, generative AI, and the potential for new UX paradigms.
• Startup Mindset: You’re energized by being a core team member, wearing multiple hats, and putting in the hard work to build something from the ground up.

$200,000 - $225,000 (based on experience)
