Job Description Summary:
The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for supporting and enhancing food safety and quality systems within a manufacturing facility. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with strong critical thinking and root cause analysis skills. The specialist will conduct internal audits, manage key food safety programs, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
Schedule: Monday - Thursday | 7am-5:30pm
Responsibilities:
- Conduct internal audits and support cGMP, HACCP, and customer audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of food safety programs, including:
- Environmental Monitoring
- Pest Control
- Sanitation Verification
- Critical Control Point Monitoring and Validation Activities
- Participate in the investigation and resolution of consumer complaints (as assigned), including documentation and follow-up.
- Support onsite laboratory operations and provide expertise in testing of raw materials and finished goods as requested by Operations and Quality Control.
- Support new product setups by ensuring food safety and quality requirements are met during trials and participate in batch sheet creation (as needed).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., production, sanitation, maintenance) to drive food safety culture and continuous improvement.
- Participate in SQF program activities as assigned, including documentation and audit preparation in assigned areas.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of audits, inspections, and program activities.
- Identify and escalate food safety or quality issues to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Stay current with food safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime and adapt to schedule changes.
Education, Skills & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Familiarity with HACCP, cGMP, and food safety regulatory requirements.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of SQF or other GFSI-recognized food safety schemes.
- Experience with audit preparation and execution.
Compensation Range:
Annual Salary $56,100 - $72,000 (non-exempt)
