Grant Accounting Associate - Finance

This is a hybrid role that requires two days in the office in Manhattan.

The Claims Conference has an opening for a Grant Accounting Associate in the Finance department. You will be responsible for assisting with the grant payment process to ensure quick and accurate payments. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, proactive and a strong communicator.

The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference), a nonprofit organization with offices in New York, Israel, Germany and Austria, secures material compensation for Holocaust survivors around the world. Founded in 1951 by representatives of 23 major international Jewish organizations, the Claims Conference negotiates for and disburses funds to individual survivors and organizations and seeks the return of Jewish property stolen during the Holocaust. As a result of negotiations with the Claims Conference since 1952, the German government has paid more than $95 billion in indemnification to individuals for suffering and losses resulting from persecution by the Nazis. For 2025, the Claims Conference distributed approximately $530 million in compensation for survivors globally and $960 million for survivors’ welfare needs such as home care, medicine and food. Our Research, Education, and Documentation (RED) funds contribute toward global efforts to educate the public and preserve the memory of the Holocaust through teacher training programs, exhibitions, and films such as Son of Saul, an Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film. At the Claims Conference, we honor history while making history.

Responsibilities:

  • Process grant allocation payments in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established procedures;
  • Resolve issues with payment discrepancies;
  • Prepare and keep up to date paperwork as it relates to grant allocation payments;
  • Request funds as needed for approved payments;
  • Enter payments/ wires into banking system when applicable;
  • Record notices of grant cancellations into the accounting grant tracking system (ACAL);
  • Keep track of cancelled grants worksheets and update appropriately;
  • Assist with quarterly reconciliation of accounting and allocation databases;
  • Assist with preparation of reports as needed for annual audit;
  • Assist with additional reports and projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years of accounting experience or equivalent professional experience;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Systems, and ERP Systems. Experience in SAP a bonus;
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Good written and oral communication skills;
  • Display a sense of urgency in meeting deadlines.

The Claims Conference offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target salary range for Grant Accounting Associate-Finance in the New York City market is $65,000-$70,000. This salary range represents Claims Conference’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.
