Group Leader 

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities. The Police Athletic League, together with NYPD and the law enforcement community, supports and inspires New York City youth to realize their full individual potential as productive members of society.


We are looking for Group Leaders  who will be responsible for planning and facilitating  learning, recreational, arts and developmentally appropriate activities for youth tied to the mission of PAL.


 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that age-appropriate activities are implemented for youth in K-8th grades.
  2. At all times, ensure safety, structure, and learning.
  3. Provide supervision during field trips, transitions, and meal times.
  4. Build positive relationships with youth and adults and serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, and behavior.
  5. Attend meetings with staff, parents, volunteers, and community residents as needed.
  6. Interact with parents and keep open lines of communication.

 


The Commitment

Able to work 15 hours a week (3 hours a day, 5 days a week)

Able to attend 15 hours of orientation prior to the beginning of programming. 

Able to attend scheduled staff meetings.


 



Qualifications

Skills / Knowledge Required

  1. High School Diploma / GED. 
  1. be at least 18 years old.
  1. of two years work experience in a non-profit agency working with youth.
  1. Classroom management and behavior management skills.
  1. to learn and grow.
  1. communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  1. to complete DOHMH/DOE clearances and fingerprints including that an annual physical has been completed in the last year. 

Salary: $17.00 an hour

Location:  William J. Duncan Center- 552 West 52nd Street, NY, NY 10019

Clearances can take 2-4 weeks to complete

DOHMH Centralized Trainings will begin for those who are cleared.
