ABOUT RETOOL
Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software for critical operations like tracking performance metrics, handling customer support workflows, building admin dashboards, and countless other processes you might not have even thought of. But most companies don't have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.

At Retool, we’re building the first enterprise AppGen platform: software that transforms natural language into production-ready code, integrates directly with business data, and meets the highest standards of security and governance. AI is redefining what it means to build software—and who gets to build it. The definition of “developer” now includes analysts, operators, and domain experts creating solutions directly. As the pool of builders widens, so does the complexity of what they need to build. The opportunity is enormous, but so is the challenge of enabling this larger community to build production-grade software safely. That means AI that understands real business data, enforces enterprise policies automatically, and empowers teams to create once and reuse everywhere with shared, trusted components.

Over 100 million hours of work has been automated by developers and domain experts using our platform, freeing them to focus on creative problem-solving and strategic initiatives that drive real business value. The people closest to knowing what needs to be built can now safely create custom solutions within enterprise guardrails. And that's a mission worth striving for.

Let's build the future together!
WHY WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU

Retool is scaling rapidly across multiple markets, expanding our product portfolio with the launch of Retool Agents and Assist, and working with an increasingly diverse group of customers across every vertical. As we continue to grow, we need to develop the tooling infrastructure for our GTM teams to match our ambition and operate successfully.

From internal tools that streamline day-to-day work, demo environments that showcase tangible value, and knowledge systems that ensure our teams can find accurate answers and best practices, you'll build the foundation that Retool runs on. If you're a builder, experimenter, and enabler who turns operational challenges into best-in-class technical solutions, this role is for you.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a GTM Engineer, you will build the strategy and technical solutions that empower Retool’s GTM teams to operate effectively with confidence. You will work primarily on our internal Retool instance, using Retool to build the systems that power GTM’s day-to-day. This is a unique opportunity to dogfood our own product at scale while solving real business problems.

You wil be embedded with GTM teams to translate their operational needs into scalable solutions, while continuously experimenting with new approaches and testing the capabilities of AI solutions to accelerate our team’s ability to engage with our customers. Revenue Operations owns the core GTM systems (Salesforce, Chilipiper, Outreach, etc.) and the strategy behind them. You own the layer on top: the applications, workflows, agents, and automations that make those systems work for the Retools that use them every day.

Success means that members of our GTM teams know where their tools and information live, pipeline data is clean and actionable, leadership has visibility into GTM performance, and automation handles the repetitive work that eats at our team’s time.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You will report to our Head of Internal Tools and work cross-functionally with teams across Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Operations. This role is embedded by design: you will sit with GTM teams, understand their workflows and challenges, and build solutions alongside them. You will complement existing functions that own core GTM systems and data models, serving as the bridge between technical capabilities and operational needs.

We’re a team that values high ownership, creative problem-solving, and building in the open. We operate with an open-door policy and believe in providing support through any channel that delivers tangible value – whether via Slack, Zoom, documentation, or pulling up a chair in the office.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Build GTM Tooling: Develop internal tools on our internal Retool instance that support pipeline generation, deal execution, and customer expansion workflows. Balance hands-on building with creating reusable patterns that scale across GTM teams.

  • Build Demo Tooling and Infrastructure: Develop and maintain the technical infrastructure powering Retool’s demo motion, including existing tools, demo applications, sandbox environments, and sample data sources. Ensure GTM teams have the necessary assets to effectively showcase our platform to customers.

  • Establish and Enforce Standards: Partner in defining the standards for internal Retool application development, including documentation, maintenance requirements, code quality, and testing. You will also audit existing tools to assess technical debt, security vulnerabilities, establish ownership, and prioritize remediation, deprecation, or rebuilds.

  • Document and Ship Best Practices: Gather feedback from GTM teams, customers, and your own experience building within our platform to document best practices. You will also contribute to our internal Center of Excellence and run enablements in partnership with cross-functional teams.

  • Advance Knowledge Systems: Support the consolidation and standardization of documentation across systems, improve discoverability of internal knowledge, examples, and answers, and develop training programs to increase Retool and AI fluency across the company.

  • Experiment and Prototype Innovations: Continuously experiment with our platform and new products to uncover innovations. Additionally, you will productionize experiments run across the company (via hackathons, QA, and crowd-sourced solutions) into reliable, supported tools for GTM, and uncover novel ways to implement AI into our day-to-day GTM workflows.

  • Nurture Cross-Functional Relationships: Demonstrate a capability to nurture relationships across GTM, EPD, and G&A teams, understand priorities and constraints, and work effectively with a wide array of Retools.

THE SKILLSET YOU’LL BRING:

  • GTM Experience: 2-4+ years in a GTM-adjacent technical role (GTM Engineering, Revenue Operations, Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, or software engineering applied to GTM). You understand demand generation, pipeline, deal stage handoffs, outbound vs. inbound dynamics, and how best-in-class GTM teams operate at scale.

  • Platform Expertise: Deep experience with Retool, including advanced patterns, performance optimization, and enterprise-scale implementations. You understand when to build for scale versus when to ship something scrappy that solves an immediate problem.

  • Software Development: Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, SQL, React, or similar languages used to build applications and automate workflows.

  • Data Engineering: Experience working with databases (Postgres, Databricks, etc.), GTM tools (Salesforce, Chilipiper, Outreach, etc.), APIs, data modeling, and creating realistic and scalable data sets.

  • Systems Thinking: Ability to design systems that enable distributed ownership while maintaining consistency. Track record of establishing engineering standards, documentation practices, and quality frameworks.

  • Cross-Functional Communication: Experience working as an embedded partner across multiple departments. Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • High Ownership: Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously and drive initiatives from zero to one. Comfortable taking half-baked requests, performing discovery, and turning them into concrete deliverables.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience building internal tools and automations

  • Familiarity with AI/LLM integration in production workflows (prompt engineering, API orchestration, agent design).

  • Background in change management or driving tool adoption at scale.

  • Familiarity with Retool’s competitive landscape.

  • Prior work at a company that dogfoods its own product.
