SUMMARY:
Ares is seeking a Principal-level technology leader to serve as Head of Credit Technology, responsible for the strategy, platforms, and delivery of technology capabilities that support the firm’s global credit investment platform.
This role will lead the technology ecosystem supporting the full credit investment lifecycle, including sourcing, deal screening, underwriting, portfolio management, risk monitoring, and investment analytics across Direct Lending, Opportunistic Credit, Alternative Credit, and Liquid Credit strategies.
Reporting into senior Investment Technology leadership, the Head of Credit Technology will serve as the primary technology partner to credit investment teams, portfolio management, risk, and investment operations.
The role will oversee the evolution and integration of key credit investment platforms, including systems such as DealCloud, Allvue, and related investment management, portfolio monitoring, and analytics platforms. The leader will drive the modernization and integration of the firm’s credit technology ecosystem, ensuring strong interoperability between deal management systems, portfolio management platforms, data platforms, and analytics capabilities.
The successful candidate will bring deep experience building technology platforms for credit investing within alternative asset managers, combined with strong knowledge of the tools, workflows, and data models that support credit underwriting, portfolio monitoring, and risk management. This role requires a leader who can translate complex investment workflows into scalable technological solutions while partnering closely with investment teams, Data & AI, risk management, and operations to deliver a highly integrated credit technology platform

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Credit Investment Technology Strategy
- Define and execute the technology strategy supporting Ares’ global credit investment platform.
- Partner closely with Direct Lending, Opportunistic Credit, Alternative Credit, and Liquid Credit investment teams to translate investment workflows into scalable technology capabilities.
- Drive the evolution of platforms supporting the end-to-end credit lifecycle, including:
- Deal sourcing and pipeline management - Deal screening and investment committee workflows - Underwriting and credit analysis - Portfolio monitoring and risk management - Investment reporting and analytics
- Ensure technology platforms support both investment decision-making and operational scale across the global credit platform
Deal Lifecycle & Investment Workflow Platforms
- Lead the development and evolution of the firm’s deal management and credit investment platforms.
- Oversee key systems supporting credit workflows, including platforms such as:
- Deal sourcing and relationship management tools (e.g., DealCloud) Investment management and portfolio systems (e.g., Allvue)
- Credit portfolio monitoring platforms Investment committee and deal approval workflows
- Ensure seamless integration across platforms supporting deal origination, underwriting, portfolio management, and investor reporting.
- Drive improvements in deal pipeline visibility, underwriting collaboration, and portfolio transparency across the firm’s credit strategies.
Portfolio Management & Credit Analytics Platforms
- Partner with investment teams to enhance technology capabilities supporting portfolio monitoring, credit risk management, and investment analytics.
- Enable platforms supporting:
- Portfolio performance monitoring Credit risk analytics Covenant tracking and borrower monitoring Exposure management and portfolio construction insights Investment performance analysis
Investment Data & Platform Integration
- Partner with Data & AI leadership to ensure credit investment platforms integrate seamlessly with enterprise data platforms and analytics environments.
- Ensure strong interoperability between deal management systems, portfolio management platforms, risk systems, and reporting tools.
- Support the use of advanced analytics and data science to enhance underwriting insights, portfolio monitoring, and investment performance analysis.
Platform Architecture & Engineering Delivery
- Partner with architecture, infrastructure, and engineering teams to ensure credit technology platforms are scalable, resilient, and aligned with enterprise technology standards.
- Drive modern platform architecture supporting:
- Cloud-based investment platforms
- Oversee vendor management and platform modernization initiatives across the credit technology ecosystem.
- Ensure platforms meet enterprise standards for security, regulatory compliance, and operational resiliency.
Leadership & Culture
- Build and lead a high-performing credit technology team supporting the firm’s global credit investment platform.
- Develop strong partnerships with investment teams, portfolio management, risk, and investment operations.
- Foster a culture of technology excellence, innovation, and investment partnership.
- Act as a senior technology leader representing credit technology priorities within broader investment technology governance forums.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- Engineering, Computer Science, or quantitative background strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in technology leadership roles supporting credit investing or investment management platforms within alternative asset managers.
- Deep familiarity with credit investment workflows across Direct Lending, Opportunistic Credit, and Liquid Credit strategies.
- Significant experience implementing and operating deal management and portfolio management platforms such as DealCloud, Allvue, or similar alternatives investment systems.
- Strong track record partnering with investment professionals to translate complex deal and portfolio workflows into scalable technology solutions.
- Demonstrated experience leading investment technology teams supporting global credit platforms.
Technical & Strategic Expertise
- Strong understanding of deal lifecycle platforms, portfolio management systems, and credit analytics tools used within alternatives firms.
- Experience integrating DealCloud, Allvue, portfolio monitoring tools, and investment data platforms.
- Familiarity with investment data models covering borrowers, securities, funds, portfolios, and performance analytics.
- Strong appreciation for data architecture, analytics platforms, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience delivering technology platforms within regulated financial services environments
Reporting Relationships
Partner, Chief Information OfficerCompensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
$275,000 - $325,000
