Atlassian is seeking a Head of Design for who will support our Dev Solutions team. Atlassian's products are loved and used by millions of developers and teams worldwide to drive innovation across many fields. Reporting into our VP of Design, you will bring a balance of craft expertise, executive communication skills, org leadership and business acumen. This skill-set will enable you to help us build world class software developer experiences.
You will lead a team that is passionate about delivering Design which scales to meet the needs of our hundreds of thousands of customers.
Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $266,500 - $355,400
Zone B: $239,900 - $319,800
Zone C: $221,200 - $295,000
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Some of the great work you will do:

  • Formulate, and present critical design strategy recommendations to the founders and executive leaders
  • Set the experience vision and strategy and lead the design across the Developer portfolio to deliver a harmonious experience for our customers and users
  • Evolve and contribute to driving strong business practices for the Developer collection team, both within Design and across functions
  • Identify and execute on critical initiatives and investments that bring quality at scale to this part of Atlassians business
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team, including product, marketing, sales, analytics, finance, and other teams
  • Lead and inspire an ambitious team of senior design leaders, and their teams across APAC, India and the US. With a passion for developing others, you'll mentor and encourage your team towards success and cohesion
  • Provide design and other cross-craft leaders with the necessary direction and support required to execute on the full life-cycle of design
  • Inspire excellence in craft and stay up to date with industry best-practice
  • Establish trust and build confidence with partners and executive leadership in and outside Design
  • Help the Design teams maintain a creative and supportive environment

  • More than ten years experience in executive/senior Design Leadership roles
  • A track record of planning and then driving business direction autonomously as a hands-on designer, then subsequently as a manager, and then manager of managers
  • Maintain an area of core strength in one or more Design disciplines where you can lead through your expertise
  • Have identified and set platform strategies, and seen them through to impact
  • Can communicate design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organisation
  • Ability to manage a broad portfolio, balancing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • You have influenced, defined, and implemented company-wide design strategy
  • A demonstrated capability to understand the technical underpinnings of software products
  • Can create positive cross- collaboration history with stakeholders, like Engineering, Product Management and Research
  • Have proven experience developing and maintaining healthy, productive teams
  • Have experience improving and sustaining design rituals at the org level
