HEAD OF SOCIAL, VULTURE

Reports To: Managing Editor

Social media is a linchpin of Vulture’s editorial operation — it’s an essential component of everything we produce and the businesses that support those efforts. We’re looking for a Head of Social to oversee that department. This person and their team will collaborate on all the work that Vulture produces and promotes, including articles, video, podcasts, games, and live events. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and lover of culture who is as comfortable in a creative brainstorming session as they are poring over editorial analytics. The job is fast-paced and often involves juggling multiple projects, so strong prioritization and communication skills are vital.

What you’ll do:

  • Determine the most effective ways to reflect Vulture’s sensibility, tone, and perspective across key platforms.

  • Create and publish engaging content.

  • Establish the necessary social strategies and tactics to help Vulture meet goals relating to audience reach and engagement, subscription conversion, sponsorship fulfillment, and brand-building.

  • Monitor social performance and use data-driven insights to refine tactics and influence editorial decisions.

  • Manage the social team: create a clear agenda, set priorities, provide coaching.

  • Introduce clear, efficient processes for working with the rest of the editorial teams.

  • Pitch new social franchises: videos, columns, rubrics, or just one-off delights.
  • Work with the Vulture features team and New York culture editors on plans for capturing behind-the-scenes content and subsequent story and package rollouts.
  • Work with the news team on live-event coverage including red carpets, parties, premieres, award shows, and Vulture-led experiences. This occasionally involves night and weekend work.
  • Pay attention to emerging or underutilized platforms and determine if/when/how Vulture should launch a presence on them.
  • Build a roster of freelance social producers, especially outside of New York.
  • Manage a budget across talent, travel, and freelancer support.

What you’ll bring:

  • Extensive social media experience, preferably at a digital media company.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills.

  • Comfort managing direct reports and working closely with members of adjacent departments.

  • A track record of growing an audience and producing distinct creative work.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite (especially Premiere), Figma, Meta Suite, and social scheduling platforms such as Dash Social.

  • The ability to parse performance data and use insights to influence editorial decision-making, track KPIs, and report on goals to leadership.
  • A high degree of entertainment enthusiasm and cultural fluency. Be prepared to discuss your favorite shows and movies, albums and creators, podcasts and video games.
  • Positivity, a level head, an insuppressible sense of humor, and a spirit of collaboration.
